Udayana University Receives Recess Working Visit from House of Representatives Commission X, Discusses Strategic Issues in Higher Education and National Policy

Udayana University received a Recess Working Visit from Commission X of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) during Session II of the 2025–2026 Parliamentary Year, held on Thursday (December 11, 2025) in the Bangsa Room, Rectorate Building of Udayana University, Jimbaran Campus. This activity formed part of the DPR RI’s legislative, budgeting, and oversight functions, particularly in the fields of education, culture, research, science and technology, youth and sports, libraries, and statistics.

The working visit was led by the Vice Chair of Commission X DPR RI and Head of the Recess Working Visit Team, Ms. M.Y. Esty Wijayati, S.H., together with members of Commission X DPR RI. Also in attendance were representatives from the Secretariat of Commission X DPR RI, partner ministries and agencies, leaders of public and private higher education institutions in Bali Province, as well as higher education figures and stakeholders.

In his welcoming remarks, the Rector of Udayana University, Prof. Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, S.T., Ph.D., stated that the visit represented a strategic momentum for higher education institutions to convey factual conditions, achievements, and challenges faced by higher education, research, and innovation in Bali Province. Udayana University views the visit of Commission X DPR RI as a tangible manifestation of the DPR RI’s constitutional role in absorbing public aspirations and formulating policies that support the improvement of human resource quality.

Furthermore, the Rector highlighted the relevance of Commission X’s strategic agenda, particularly regarding the planned revision of the National Education System Law through a codification approach that integrates the Higher Education Law and the Teacher and Lecturer Law. He also emphasized the importance of policy and budgetary support to enhance the quality of lecturers and educational staff, ensure curriculum relevance to regional needs and the labor market, and strengthen research and innovation based on Bali’s local potential with tangible benefits for society.

Also present was the Acting Inspector General of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), Ms. Nursyarifah, S.H., LL.M., who participated in discussions with the invited guests. The discussion addressed various strategic issues in higher education, including student admissions policies, proposals for State Universities with Legal Entity Status (PTNBH), and a range of challenges faced by both public and private higher education institutions in delivering higher education.

In accordance with the Terms of Reference for the Recess Working Visit, the meeting was also used to gather input on the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education, national policies such as Kampus Berdampak, BOPTN, and KIP Kuliah, as well as support for higher education facilities and infrastructure. In addition, discussions covered the strengthening of regional research and innovation, the role of the Bali Provincial BRIDA, and the readiness of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in supporting the National One Data policy and preparations for the 2026 Economic Census.

Through this constructive dialogue, Commission X DPR RI is expected to gain a comprehensive understanding of policy implementation, challenges, and the real needs of higher education in the regions as a basis for policy formulation and the strengthening of its oversight function. Udayana University welcomes this working visit as a form of synergy between the legislative and executive branches and higher education institutions in promoting sustainable higher education development with real and meaningful impact for society.
