Udayana University Hosts the 21st International Conference on Intelligent Unmanned Systems (ICIUS 2025), Welcoming Participants from Around the World

Udayana University proudly hosted the 21st International Conference on Intelligent Unmanned Systems (ICIUS 2025), a multidisciplinary forum held in collaboration with Udayana University, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), and Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS). The event took place at the Ruang Bangsa, Rectorate Building, Jimbaran Campus, on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

The conference was attended by the Head of the Bali Provincial Office of Communication, Informatics, and Statistics, representing the Governor of Bali, the Rector of Udayana University, the President of the International Society of Intelligent Unmanned Systems, keynote speakers, academics, and participants from various countries. Representatives from the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia also joined the event virtually.

In his address, Adis Alifiawan, ST., MH., Director of Radio Frequency Spectrum Planning, Satellite Orbits, and Digital Infrastructure Standardization at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, emphasized that unmanned systems and artificial intelligence are no longer futuristic concepts—they are current development strategies that must not be overlooked. The advancement of satellite technology has rapidly expanded access to various facilities and services. Satellite and space technologies play a strategic role in modern development, improving connectivity, resilience, and supporting key sectors such as education, healthcare, disaster response, climate action, and sustainable economic growth.

“For Indonesia, an archipelagic nation with over 17,000 islands, satellite and space technologies are essential to achieving digital inclusion. We hope this conference will strengthen cooperation among Southeast Asian countries and beyond,” he stated.

Delivering the remarks on behalf of the Governor of Bali, the Head of Bali's Office of Communication and Informatics, Ir. Gede Pramana, ST., MT, highlighted that we are currently in the midst of a massive wave of technological transformation. Artificial Intelligence, unmanned, and autonomous systems are no longer distant future concepts—they have begun to shape our daily lives, including in the realms of economy, governance, education, and healthcare.

He noted that these developments offer extraordinary opportunities. In industry, smart technologies can boost productivity, reduce risks, and open up new jobs in innovative and productive centers. In healthcare, AI can accelerate diagnoses and provide more precise treatments. In environmental management, unmanned systems can be deployed to monitor oceans, forests, and disaster-prone areas.

“However, behind these technological advancements lie significant challenges. Technology without ethics can exacerbate social inequality, threaten privacy, and even compromise security. Therefore, technological development must be guided by values of humanity, sustainability, and social justice,” he warned.

He concluded that hosting an international conference such as ICIUS in Bali strengthens the island’s position—not only as a destination of natural and cultural beauty, but also as a center of academic and technological excellence.

Meanwhile, Prof. I Ketut Sudarsana, Rector of Udayana University, remarked that the organization of this important conference aligns with Unud’s commitment to advancing research, encouraging innovation, and fostering strong partnerships among academia, industry, and government. He expressed confidence that the conference would provide a valuable platform for sharing cutting-edge research, exchanging best practices, and inspiring future collaborations.

“I also hope the participants will take the opportunity to experience the rich culture and natural beauty of Bali during ICIUS 2025,” he added.
