“The Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, Strengthens Efforts to Advance Bali’s Corn Production Sovereignty through the Organization of a National Seminar in Collaboration with Pemuda Tani Indonesia”
The Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, in collaboration with Pemuda Tani Indonesia, organized a National Seminar themed “Sovereignty and Intensification of Bali Corn Production in Realizing the Astacita of the President of Indonesia.” This event aimed to inspire the younger generation to engage in the agricultural sector while strengthening collaboration among academics, Pemuda Tani Indonesia, the seed industry, and local communities in advancing sovereignty and productivity of Bali’s corn cultivation.
The national seminar was held on Monday, 24 November 2025, at the Nusantara Hall, Agrokomplek Building, Sudirman Campus, Udayana University. The event was attended by the Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Agriculture, the Secretary General of the Central Executive Board of Pemuda Tani Indonesia, representatives of PT BISI International Tbk, academics, young farmers, and students of the Faculty of Agriculture.
The seminar was officially opened by the Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. I Made Sukewijaya, S.P., M.Sc. In his remarks, he emphasized the strategic role of youth in advancing Indonesian agriculture. The Faculty of Agriculture, through the Independent Internship Program and other student development initiatives, is committed to facilitating students in building competencies and fostering the spirit of young farmers, while also supporting the realization of the President’s Astacita.
The seminar featured two keynote speakers: Dr. Ir. Ni Luh Made Pradnyawati, M.P., and Putu Darsana, Ph.D. In her presentation, Dr. Pradnyawati highlighted that Bali’s local corn varieties exhibit strong adaptive advantages to environmental conditions, as they have been cultivated over long periods. She cited the example of Bangli local corn, which possesses drought tolerance, earlier maturity, and high productivity of up to 7 tons per hectare. Meanwhile, Putu Darsana, Ph.D., elaborated on strategies to achieve “Bali’s Sovereignty in Corn Production,” encompassing two major approaches: Extensification, by expanding corn cultivation into areas not traditionally considered corn-producing regions, and Intensification, through improving the productivity of existing corn crops.
In addition to the keynote sessions, the seminar also included an interactive discussion highlighting the challenges and opportunities in developing Bali’s local corn. Through this national seminar, the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, aims to strengthen synergy among academia, government, industry stakeholders, and young farmer communities in supporting the enhancement of national corn productivity, particularly in the Province of Bali.
