Collaboration in Statistical Services, Rector of Udayana University Receives an Audience with the Head of BPS Bali Province

Jimbaran – The Rector of Udayana University, Prof. I Ketut Sudarsana, accompanied by the Vice Rector for General Affairs and Finance, Prof. Agoes Ganesha Rahyuda, and the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information, Prof. Made Sucipta, received an audience with the Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for Bali Province and his team at the Rectorate Building, Jimbaran Campus, on Monday (September 22, 2025). The meeting was in connection with the 2025 National Statistics Day (HSN), during which BPS Bali expressed its interest in collaborating with Udayana University on statistical literacy.

The Head of BPS Bali Province, Agus Gede Hendrayana Hermawan, stated that no matter how good the statistical data produced is, it would be meaningless if not utilized. Beyond the government, the greatest users of statistical data are academics. He expressed his delight that BPS data can be used by all parties in making decisions. One of BPS's tasks is to build statistical literacy, and he hopes to work together with Udayana University to realize this goal through collaboration.

As a vertical institution, BPS has brought statistical services closer to major universities across Indonesia by establishing “Statistical Corners” – spaces on campus managed by academic communities with designated statistical agents. These corners provide easier access to statistical services for stakeholders. Currently, Udayana University does not yet have such a facility, and BPS hopes this can be realized.

In response, Rector Prof. I Ketut Sudarsana appreciated the offer from BPS and expressed readiness to collaborate, emphasizing that the university’s duties include research, human resource development, and community service. One crucial area is research collaboration, as data-driven decision-making heavily relies on statistical data. Nearly all study programs in the humanities base their research on statistics. He emphasized the importance of building this collaboration, as many students already utilize BPS data. With an existing cooperation framework, this collaboration can be further supported.

Regarding the Statistical Corner, the Rector requested a proposal be prepared so that proper allocation can be made. He suggested that the facility could potentially be located in the university library. Additionally, there are opportunities for collaboration in the form of practitioner-led teaching, especially in statistics, as well as public lectures.
