BNN RI Invites Udayana University to Eradicate Drug Trafficking

The National Anti Narcotics Agency of Republic Indonesia  (BNN RI) entered into a collaboration with Udayana University through the signing of a memorandum of understanding in the prevention, eradication, abuse, illicit distribution of narcotics and narcotics precursors. This collaboration is important for Udayana University as an educational institution to pay special attention in preventing young people who are vulnerable to the dangers of drug abuse and its kind.

"Nowadays many students are involved in drug abuse. "From the news published by BNN RI in 2018 there are 2 million students and 1.5 million workers involved in narcotics use," explained the Chancellor of Udayana University, Prof. Dr.dr. A A. Raka Sudewi, Sp.S (K), when giving a speech.

The event was followed by Signing Anti Narcotics Pararem by the Head of Indonesia National Anti Narcotics Agency, the Governor of Bali, the Regent and Mayor, the Inauguration of Anti Narcotics Volunteers, Bersinar Village Inauguration, and the Public Lecture by the Head of Indonesia National Anti Narcotics Agency. There are 20 Clean Narcotics (Shining) Villages in the Province of Bali.

In his speech, the Governor of Bali, I Wayan Koster, explained that he had visited Kerobokan Prison and most of the custody there were drug prisoners. "There are foreigners, there are Indonesian too," he explained.

The Governor of Bali also stated that Bali still has traditional villages that exist rather than other regions in Indonesia. In this case, he said he would continue to synergize with National Anti Narcotics Agency of Bali in the eradication of drugs through an education awareness process to the community using Pararem (Balinese customary law).

The head of BNN in Bali, Brigadier General of Police. I Putu Gede Suastawa also attended this event. He said that in Bali there are 76 traditional villages spread across five regencies and cities in Bali, namely Badung, Denpasar, Buleleng, Karangasem, and Klungkung which have anti-drug pararem. In the future, he will invite three other districts namely Tabanan, Jembrana, and Bangli and other traditional villages in Bali to develop this anti-drug pararem.

Bali as a world tourism area is very vulnerable to drug trafficking. At least there are 3 regions that are vulnerable to drug trafficking, namely Beraban, Seminyak and Kedonganan. Distribution of heroin drugs is prevalent in Seminyak, and Bali is the only area in Indonesia with heroin drugs distribution.

"Seminyak has a lot of heroin, the users are many foreigners." Explained the Head of National  Anti Narcotics Agency of Republic Indonesia, the Police Commissioner General Drs. Heru Winarko, S.H, while giving a public lecture session at the end of the event on Tuesday (05/14/2019) in Dr. Anak Agung Made Jelantik meeting room, Medical Faculty of Udayana University.

The Chancellor of Udayana University hopes that this collaboration can be followed by programs to prevent or eradicate drug trafficking in Udayana University. "Currently in Udayana University around 27 thousand more students who are vulnerable to this drug problem," she explained.

She also explained that in the future there will be follow-up, such as module dissemination, case mapping and counseling. "The follow-up will be the dissemination of prohibited drug introduction modules, then through research, mapping cases in Bali, there will be community service by providing information  about dangers of these drugs," she continued.
