Universitas Udayana Wins 3rd Place Nationally and Advances to the 2025 World University Debating Championship

Central Java — Universitas Udayana once again made a proud achievement on the national stage.
At the National University Debating Championship (NUDC) 2025 organized by Belmawa Kemdiktisaintek, Universitas Udayana’s debate team successfully won 3rd Place (Bronze Medal). The team was represented by Christian Nathaniel Adrianto from the Faculty of Cultural Studies and I Made Dwi Litarona from the Faculty of Engineering. In addition, Archierea Halim from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences also earned the prestigious title of 4th Breaking Adjudicator, further adding to Universitas Udayana’s list of remarkable accomplishments this year.

According to the team’s advisor, Dr. Ni Luh Putu Krisnawati, S.S., M.Hum., this achievement marks an important milestone for Udayana in stepping onto the global stage. The Universitas Udayana debate team will represent Indonesia at the World University Debating Championship (WUDC) 2025 in Bulgaria. This accomplishment reflects Universitas Udayana’s strong commitment to fostering students’ critical thinking and communication skills at an international level.

The National University Debating Championship (NUDC) and the Indonesian Student Debate Competition (KDMI) were held at Jenderal Soedirman University, serving as the host from October 20–24, 2025. The 2025 national-level NUDC and KDMI served as prestigious platforms for university students to express and challenge arguments. NUDC is a national English-language debate competition aimed at cultivating students’ potential in critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and English proficiency, as well as selecting Indonesia’s delegates for international debate championships. Meanwhile, KDMI is a national-level debate competition conducted in Indonesian, designed to enhance students’ reasoning, critical thinking, and communication skills while providing opportunities for self-expression. This year, NUDC and KDMI brought together 588 students from 196 teams representing 129 universities across Indonesia.

Through NUDC and KDMI, Kemdiktisaintek reaffirms its commitment to nurturing a learning ecosystem that encourages students to think openly, collaboratively, and creatively in facing contemporary challenges. Furthermore, this competition serves as a “kawah candradimuka”—a transformative arena where students refine and test their arguments.

This debate championship stands as evidence that universities are not merely places for academic pursuit, but also laboratories of nationhood—where ideas, enthusiasm, and diversity unite to build a smarter and more empowered future for Indonesia.
