Udayana University Conducts Peer Counselor Training for Students
Udayana University organized a Peer Counselor Training for students on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Auditorium, 3rd Floor of the Library Building, Bukit Jimbaran Campus. The event was officially opened by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Gusti Ngurah Alit Susanta Wirya, S.P., M.Agr., who in his remarks emphasized the importance of mental health and psychological well-being as an integral part of both academic success and personal development.
The training was designed to equip students with the skills to become peer companions capable of providing initial support to their fellow students in facing academic and non-academic challenges. Through materials covering topics such as understanding student issues, Psychological First Aid (PFA), communication techniques, and stress management, participants are expected to develop empathy, social sensitivity, and the ability to guide their peers to appropriate professional services when needed.
On this occasion, the Vice Rector for Student Affairs stated that the role of a peer counselor is not to replace professional psychologists or counselors, but to serve as a friend who listens, supports, and provides initial guidance. He expressed his hope that through this training, a strong and sustainable peer counseling network will be established within Udayana University, fostering an inclusive, supportive, and empathetic campus environment.
