Udayana University Athletes Win Several Medals at POMNAS XIX Central Java, BAPOMI Bali Contingent Ranks in Top 10
Denpasar – Students from Universitas Udayana once again demonstrated their athletic prowess at the 19th National Student Sports Week (Pekan Olahraga Mahasiswa Nasional/POMNAS) held in Central Java, helping the BAPOMI Bali contingent secure a spot among the top 10 in the medal tally. Prof. Gusti Ngurah Alit Susanta Wirya, Vice Rector for Student Affairs at Unud and also Chairman of BAPOMI Bali, expressed his gratitude and pride for the athletes’ hard work and dedication in representing Bali and the university.
“This POMNAS is a continuation from the previous event, and we have once again secured a place in the top 10. Although some athletes just finished competing in the Provincial Sports Week (Porprov), which was physically demanding, they remained committed and succeeded in winning medals for Bali,” he said.
The Unud athletes secured one gold, two silver, and several bronze medals. The gold medal came from the swimming discipline, while the silver medals were won in swimming and chess. Bronze medals were awarded in swimming, taekwondo, pétanque, and tarung derajat.
The Vice Rector added that this achievement is especially commendable considering the university had yet to conduct fully intensive preparations. “So far, most of the preparation has been carried out by the respective sports organizations. Nevertheless, the results are impressive and motivate us to continue developing our athletes,” he explained.
He further emphasized the importance of sustainable athlete development to achieve even better results in future POMNAS events. “We must appreciate and continuously nurture these outstanding students, as POMNAS will continue in the future, and we aim to improve our results,” he concluded.
