Saraswati Holy Day, Unud Holds Prayers Centered at Pura Widya Maha Amrta, Sudirman Campus

Denpasar – Udayana University held a communal prayer to celebrate the Holy Day of Saraswati, centered at Pura Widya Maha Amrta, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, on Saturday (September 6, 2025). The prayer ceremony was attended by the Rector, Vice Rectors, Faculty Deans and other university leaders, lecturers, staff, and students. The ceremony was led by Jero Mangku of the temple. This year’s celebration also featured two performances of the traditional Rejang dance.

The Saraswati Holy Day is celebrated by Hindus every 210 days, specifically on Saniscara Umanis Wuku Watugunung. Saraswati Day is often referred to as the day when knowledge descends to earth. In Hindu mythology, Goddess Saraswati is the divine consort (shakti) of Lord Brahma and is depicted as a beautiful four-armed goddess holding sacred objects such as lontar (palm-leaf manuscripts), genitri (prayer beads), a vina (musical instrument), and a damaru (drum).

Through the celebration of Saraswati Day, it is hoped that the academic community, especially Hindu members, will gain knowledge and wisdom to guide them toward harmony and peace.
