Book "Heterogeneity of Literature in Bali" by Lecturer of Indonesian Literature Study Program FIB Unud Wins 2021 Ministry of Education and Culture's Literature Award

The book Heterogeneity of Literature in Bali (2021) by a lecturer in the Indonesian Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Darma Putra, M. Litt. appointed as the recipient of the 2021 Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology literary award for the essay/literary criticism category.

Winners will be announced Thursday, October 28, 2021, to coincide with the celebration of Youth Pledge Day and Language Month 2021, held online (https://youtu.be/3VV-QhNbD-Q).

Every year, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology through the Language Development and Development Agency conducts the Jury for Literature Awards, with five categories, namely poetry collections, dramas, short stories, novels, and essays/literary criticism.

A Century of Literature in Bali

According to I Nyoman Darma Putra, the book Heterogeneity of Literature in Bali reveals the richness and heterogeneity of literature in Bali, by discussing socio-historically three types of literature: Indonesian literature, traditional Balinese literature, and modern Balinese literature, in the span of a century.

"In addition to the history of the development of each genre, this book also discusses the interplay between the three literary genres in the necessity of intertextuality," said the outstanding lecturer at Unud who was first in the field of Social Humanities in 2018.

The topics studied in 15 chapters include the development of Indonesian literature in Bali from colonial times to the present, the golden age (versus anxiety) of traditional Balinese literature, the centenary of modern Balinese literature, the development of theater in Bali, analysis of Balinese dramas, the phenomenon of translation. , and the publication of modern Balinese literature today.

The description is closed by introducing the pasatmian concept, a term which means the unity of heterogeneous literary elements that occur due to influence or adaptation.

With a time span of discussion from the 1920s to 2020, this book inevitably becomes a kind of record for a century of literature in Bali.

Written in simple and logical language and rich in primary data, this book is a pleasure to read and enlighten. This book is intended for students, lecturers, researchers, and enthusiasts of literature in particular and Balinese culture in general.

Selection of 564 Works

According to information from the Language Agency, in the 2021 Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Literary Award Judging, there were a total of 564 works that were assessed. These works are proposals from publishers, communities, and language offices/halls.

Based on the assessment of literary works, the Jury determined five people as recipients of the Literary Award of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The decision of the jury is irrevocable (dp).
