KKN PPM Unud Helps Increase the Productivity of Pegringsingan Ethnic Fabrics in Tenganan Village, Manggis District, Karangasem Regency

Gringsing cloth is one of the unique, authentic fabrics and is now very rare, the only one found in weaving craftsmen in Tenganan Village, Karangasem. Maintaining the Gringsing cloth and tradition (warpandan, megibung) in Tenganan Village is something that cannot be negotiated. The potential of this village has been able to invite foreign tourists to come to Tenganan Village (as stated by the Head of Tenganan Village I Putu Yudiana, ST). However, to improve the existence of Gringsing fabric, repairs and improvements need to be made starting from the production, management and marketing of products.

This then became the theme of the activity of the Community Empowerment Learning Learning Course at Udayana University (KKN PPM UNUD) for the XVII Period in 2018 in Tenganan Village, Manggis District, Karangasem Regency.

According to the chief executive of the KKN PPM Desa Tenganan activity, Ni Ketut Seminari, the activities carried out included increasing the productivity of ethnic woven weaving crafts, improving financial and business management and developing marketing through online media. The method of implementing activities was through counseling and training, which involved teams from Udayana University and ISI Denpasar. In addition, through this KKN PPM activity, donations of Non-Machine Weaving Tools (ATBM) were also handed over to weaving craftsmen in Dauh Tukad Hamlet.

Furthermore it was said that the KKN PPM activity was one of the programs from the Directorate of Research and Community Service of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education to carry out community empowerment activities. From the activities carried out throughout 2018, it is expected to increase weaver productivity, as well as better management of finance, production, human resources and marketing.
