Following up to the MoU, the Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and the Environment of Timor Leste Visited Unud

Bukit Jimbaran (10/07/2017) - The Timor Leste Ministry of Trade, Industry and Living Environment visited Udayana University in order to evaluate the working relationship that has been expressed in the MoU in an effort to improve the working activity in the field of environment. The visit is aimed at obtaining inputs related to the drafting of government regulations on environmental monitoring in order to improve the environmental monitoring system in Timor Leste.

Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environment, Philip Nino Pareira, accompanied by Director General of Environment, Head of Environmental Law Agency and the ranks received by Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Information in Language Room Rectorate Building Bukit Jimbaran Campus. Present on this occasion Dean of the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries, Head of PPLH and the ranks of the Partnership and Public Relations Unud.

The Ministry of Environment of Timor Leste expressed a desire to establish cooperation in the preparation of academic script that related to environmental pollution. The skript will be used for the preparation of the Environmental Constitution by the government of East Timor. The plan will also be set of standard quality standards regarding air, sea, water and land. After the analysis will be carried out a revision on the Constitution draft.

Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Information, Prof. Drs. I Made Suastra, Ph.D welcomed the Timor-Leste initiative. Prof. Suastra conveyed that Unud was open to Timor Leste related to academic cooperation since both parties already have MoU. In the field of environment, Timor Leste can coordinate with Environmental Research Center (PPLH) of Unud. Prof. Suastra added there are other areas that can be cooperated including animal quarantine and business incubator for young entrepreneurs.

On the same owccasion, Head of PPLH Unud, Dr. I Made Sudarma conveyed that both parties had already established cooperation and training with Timor Leste. With regard to Environmental Law, the Head of PPLH submitted the regional regulations should be in tune with the central government regulation. The environmental quality standard is substantial to the domain of PPLH and the narrative is the task of law. Associated with water pollution should pay attention to designation zones. Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries added that the law must be drafted by the relevant State because it has to get approval from stake holders as stated in the academic study.(PR)
