Unud awarded the Honoris Causa Doctor to Prof. Takuya Marumoto, Ph.D

Denpasar - Udayana University held an Open Senate Session in order to confer the Honoris Causa Doctor to Prof. Takuya Marumoto, Ph.D from Yamaguchi University, Japan, on Friday (30/06/2017) in the Hall Room Pascasarajana Campus Sudirman Denpasar. Doctor Honoris Causa is a degree awarded by a qualified college / university to a person, the person doesn't need to attend and graduate from an appropriate education to earn his degree. Honoris Causa title can be given if someone has been considered beneficial and or work great for science and humanity.

The award of Doctor Honoris Causa to Prof. Takuya Marumoto, Ph.D is an award that given by Unud for his contribution in strengthening cooperation with Yamaguchi University especially in agriculture and technology. Prof. Takuya Marumoto, PhD, was Yamaguchi University President for the period 2006-2014 and currently served as the Auditor of Kyoto University, as well as Executive Director of Takino Filter Inc. Japan. On the occasion Prof. Takuya Marumoto, Ph.D provided a scientific oration entitled "Environmental Restoration by New Technology for Prevention of Soil Erosion and Revegetation on Bare Slopes in Japan and Indonesia".

Rector of Unud, Prof. Dr. Dr. Ketut Suastika, Sp.PD-KEMD in his speech delivered his position as Rector was invited to Yamaguchi University to attend the award ceremony of Doctor Honoris Causa to Prof. Dr. Dr. I Made Bakta. Sp.PD (KHOM), Professor of Faculty of Medicine Unud. It was a pride for Udayana University because Prof. Made Bakta was the third person to get a Doctorate Honoris Causa from Yamaguchi University. Further Prof. Ketut Suastika said that Prof. Takuya Marumoto, Ph.D has an enormous role in building a remarkable relationship between Unud and Yamaguchi University which is still going well for now.

During his tenure, a great deal of academic and research cooperation took place between Udayana University and Yamaguchi University with the initiative of Professor Takuya Marumoto. One of them is the most prestigious project of "Pilot Survey for Disseminating SME's Technologies for Disaster Prevention and Environmental Regeneration", a research collaboration between Udayana University and Yamaguchi University - Takino Filter Inc., that funded by the Japanese Government under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The Rector hopes that his achievements and discoveries will inspire the world of academics in general, as well as to the professors and academicians of Udayana University in particular, to follow Professor Takuya Marumoto's path of contributing his knowledge internationally.(PR)
