Professor Dr. R. Vasudevan: 'Plastic Tar Road is Disposal Solutions For Plastics Waste'

Bukit Jimbaran (15/06/2017) - Udayana University in cooperation with the Coordinating Ministry of of Agriculture held a Workshop "Plastic Tar Road as a Solution for Plastic Waste Management" in National Room Rectorate Building Bukit Jimbaran Campus. This workshop presented Dr. R. Vasudevan, DEAN CO & ECA Professor of Chemistry, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, India. The event was attended by Deputy Rector of Planning, Cooperation and Information of Udayana University, Deputy of Coordination of Human Resources, Science and Maritime Culture and Komenko Maritim, Consul General of India, Head of Department, Dean of Faculty and students.

Deputy for Coordination of Human Resources, Science and Maritime Culture, Dr. Safri Burhanuddin in his speech said Indonesia is the second largest country after China in using plastic, it is seen from the large population. The over of the population then the amount of plastic use will be even greater. In Indonesia plastic waste has a negative impact on the image of tourism and need to find a solution to overcome it. Therefore, Dr. Safri Burhanuddin hopes this forum can provide solutions in solving waste problems that faced by Indonesia.

Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Information, Prof. Drs. I Made Suastra, Ph.D in his speech emphasized how Unud can play its role in the academic world to build innovation, especially in addressing environmental issues. Unud opened up to all the innovations to overcome the existing social problems, one of them is the problem of plastic waste that becomes a big problem and disturbs the environment. Through this workshop is expected to find a solution to overcome the amount of plastic waste whicg it is large enough, it is expected through the speakers who attended will discuss the utilization of plastic waste for valuable use.

Prof. Dr. R Vasudevan in his material said today people prefer to use chemicals that can  pollute and contaminate water. The sea is now already littered with a lot of rubbish and one of them contaminated with plastic waste. Further Prof. Vasudevan provides an overview of the asphalt-making process of plastic waste materials. Prof. Vasudevan also expressed the need for cooperation between research institutions, government and private sector to overcome this plastic waste problem. (PR)
