Udayana University Holds the 1st International Conference on Marine and Fisheries Science (ICMFS) 2025


Denpasar, 24 November 2025 – The Faculty of Marine and Fisheries, Udayana University, hosted the 1st International Conference on Marine and Fisheries Science (ICMFS) 2025, held in a hybrid format on 24–25 November 2025 at the Samudera Building, Faculty of Marine and Fisheries, Udayana University. This year’s conference carries the theme “Blue Synergy: Sustainable Development and Improving Community Welfare for the Marine and Fisheries Sector,” reflecting the university’s commitment to advancing scientific innovation for sustainable marine resource management and community-centered development.

The Rector of Udayana University was represented at the event by the Secretary of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), I Gede Hendrawan, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.

In his opening remarks, he expressed appreciation for the successful organization of the conference and emphasized the importance of synergy among researchers in addressing global challenges in the marine and fisheries sector, including climate change, coastal habitat degradation, and strengthening food security based on marine resources.

“This conference serves as a strategic platform for knowledge exchange and strengthening international research networks. We hope that the discussions and presentations at the 1st ICMFS 2025 will contribute significantly to Udayana University’s role in advancing marine and fisheries science, both nationally and globally,” he stated.

Following the opening ceremony, the conference continued with keynote speeches delivered by several experts, including Prof. Josaphat Tetuko Sri Sumantyo (Chiba University), Dr. Nani Hendiarti (Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs), and Prof. Sai-Kit Yeung (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology). Day one also featured invited speeches, panel discussions, and parallel sessions highlighting topics such as biotechnology, biodiversity conservation, plastic pollution, fishing technologies, and sustainable fisheries resource management.

On the second day, Tuesday (25/11), ICMFS 2025 will continue with a keynote speech by Dr.Sc. Widiastuti, S.Kel., M.Si. The program will also feature two international invited speakers: Prof. Hyun Woo Kim (Pukyong National University, South Korea) and Dr. Mike Van Keulen (Murdoch University, Australia). Additionally, parallel scientific presentation sessions will cover topics including coastal habitat management, blue carbon, aquaculture, fisheries biotechnology, marine product utilization, and water quality assessments. These sessions are designed to provide participants with extensive opportunities to share their latest scientific findings.

With the successful organization of the 1st ICMFS 2025, it is hoped that this conference will strengthen scientific networks, generate research-based recommendations, and contribute meaningfully to the sustainable development of the marine and fisheries sector, in line with the spirit of Blue Synergy championed this year.
