UNSIKA Senate Holds Workshop on Strengthening Academic Governance with Speakers from Unud Senate Chair and Rector

Denpasar – The Senate of Singaperbangsa Karawang University (UNSIKA) conducted a workshop at Universitas Udayana (Unud) themed "Strengthening Academic Governance through University Senate Regulatory Reform." The event took place in the Senate Room of the Agrokomplek Building, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. The workshop was attended by the Chairpersons and Rectors of both Universitas Udayana and Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang, along with Senate members and other leadership officials. Two main speakers delivered materials at the workshop: Unud Senate Chair Prof. Dr. Ir. I Gede Mahardika, MS, and Unud Rector Prof. Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, S.T., Ph.D.

The event began with a speech from the Chair of the Singaperbangsa Karawang University Senate, Prof. Dr. Aslan Noor, S.H., M.H., CN, who expressed gratitude to the Unud Rector for serving as the keynote speaker. He emphasized the commitment of the Singaperbangsa Karawang Senate to strengthening adaptive and integrity-based academic governance. “We hope this will be a valuable space for sharing knowledge and building synergy within higher education institutions, while also finding solutions to the dynamic challenges in academic governance today,” he said.

The main objective of the workshop was to formulate strategies and discuss the vital role of the Senate in safeguarding academic principles and ensuring that university senate regulations are managed inclusively, progressively, and with real impact for the academic community. “We are confident that the presence of the speakers and the active participation of all attendees will yield actionable recommendations and concrete steps for shared advancement. Through this workshop, the Singaperbangsa Karawang Senate invites everyone to fully engage in discussion and collaboration. May this event run smoothly, be beneficial, and bring positive outcomes for higher education at Unud, UNSIKA, and Indonesia as a whole,” Prof. Aslan added.

Meanwhile, the Rector of Singaperbangsa Karawang University, Prof. Dr. H. Ade Maman Suherman, S.H., M.Sc., also conveyed his thanks to the Unud Senate Chair and Rector for hosting them. He shared that UNSIKA is currently preparing a new statute, which is expected to serve as a reference for other new state universities. “We have recently allocated time to work on diction, narrative, and so forth, so that it will facilitate others who will draft statutes in the future,” he explained.

Unud Senate Chair Prof. I Gede Mahardika expressed his gratitude for the collaboration, hoping the discussions and outcomes would significantly contribute to the progress of both universities. “All universities share the same goal—to provide the best possible education services to society. Therefore, let us use this moment to discuss what actions we can take to enhance the role of higher education institutions in delivering quality education,” he said.

Unud Rector Prof. Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, S.T., Ph.D. welcomed the UNSIKA delegation warmly. He viewed the visit as a bridge to strengthen academic ties and foster cooperation among universities. During the event, the Rector also briefly introduced Unud’s campus locations, vision and mission, faculties, study programs, and student population.

The workshop’s theme was considered highly relevant to the current challenges in higher education. University senates play a strategic role as guardians of academic dignity, quality assurance, and advisors in academic decision-making. Reforming senate regulations is necessary to enable academic governance to adapt to global dynamics, national regulatory developments, and the increasing complexity of campus autonomy. The Rector believes that through discussion, reflection, and experience exchange in this workshop, fresh ideas will emerge to not only strengthen senate regulations but also promote more transparent, accountable, and quality-oriented university governance.

“I hope this activity will provide tangible contributions to strengthening academic governance in each university and serve as a foundation to build a more superior, adaptive, and globally competitive future for Indonesian higher education,” concluded Prof. Sudarsana.
