CYANIDE XXIX by Udayana University's Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences: Participants' Enthusiasm Shows Continued Passion for Learning in Chemistry
Denpasar – The Chemistry Student Association of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University, organized the 29th Chemistry National Olympiad Event (CYANIDE) 2025 at the Graduate School Hall, FMIPA Building, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, on Saturday, September 27, 2025. The event, themed "Catalyst of Change: Building a Sustainable World Through Chemistry," was officially opened by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs representing the Rector of Udayana University. The opening ceremony was combined with the finals of the scientific writing competition (LKTI), high school chemistry theory contest, and the closing of CYANIDE XXIX.
Indigo Zaid Saputro, the Chair of the Committee, reported that over several days, CYANIDE featured various competitions, including student competency tests (KOMPAS), essays, chemistry theory, scientific writing (LKTI), and poster contests. These competitions attracted top participants from numerous schools and universities nationwide. The high enthusiasm from participants and the support from various stakeholders serve as proof that the passion for learning, innovating, and competing in chemistry continues to flourish among the younger generations.
“Our great hope is that CYANIDE Udayana not only serves as a competition but also as an inspiration and collaboration platform to foster a smart, creative generation that cares about the environment and society,” he said.
The Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Prof. Ni Luh Watiniasih, in her speech, noted that this was the 29th time the Faculty has held this event, which is important for scouting talents in the field of chemistry. She also mentioned that CYANIDE is an annual event organized by the Chemistry Study Program and is expected to improve even further in the future. The event also aims to promote the study program and enhance skills in cooperation and student organization management. The Dean expressed her hopes for a smooth and successful event.
Meanwhile, the Vice Rector, Prof. Gusti Ngurah Alit Susanta Wirya, stated that CYANIDE serves as an intellectual platform to nurture the enthusiasm and concern of young generations in providing solutions to environmental and sustainability issues through chemistry. All competition categories are expected to sharpen critical, innovative, and practical thinking skills, especially in utilizing chemistry to achieve a healthier planet.
“Our great hope is that through this event, finalists not only compete for achievements but also cultivate the spirit of learning and care for the earth’s sustainability,” the Vice Rector said.
He also expressed hope that the experience gained in CYANIDE XXIX would be the first step toward continuous growth, contribution, and becoming a “catalyst of change” in creating a sustainable world.
During the opening ceremony, the rotating trophy was handed over by SMA Negeri 1 Bangli, followed by the competitions.
