Udayana University’s Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) Organizes Seminar to Strengthen the Research Ecosystem

Denpasar – Udayana University, through its Institute for Research and Community Service (Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat – LPPM), organized a seminar titled "Strategies for Developing the Research Ecosystem at Udayana University Towards a Science and Technology Zone and Innovation-Based Economy". The event was held in the Dr. A.A. Made Djelantik Meeting Room, Faculty of Medicine, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, on Thursday, 4 September 2025.

The seminar featured Prof. I Ketut Adnyana, M.Si., Ph.D., Director of Research & Community Service at the Directorate General of Research and Development, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), as the keynote speaker. He presented on the topic "Impactful Diktisaintek: Research Ecosystem in Seizing Opportunities."

Prof. I Nyoman Suarsana, Chair of LPPM Udayana University, in his opening remarks, emphasized Udayana University’s strong commitment to building an integrated research ecosystem aimed at creating a competitive academic environment globally. He explained that developing the Science and Technology Zone (Saintek) is not merely about physical infrastructure but also about innovation. One of the key strategies being implemented is collaboration. He expressed hope that participants would actively engage in discussions with the expert speaker.

Meanwhile, Rector of Udayana University, Prof. I Ketut Sudarsana, in his speech, stated that this seminar serves as a strategic momentum for all stakeholders to formulate concrete steps toward building a more adaptive and competitive research ecosystem aligned with the national development agenda, particularly supporting the realization of the Science and Technology Zone and an innovation-based economy.

He highlighted that Udayana University boasts strong resources, including 199 research groups, 40 centers of research excellence, and various centers of science and technology excellence. These are valuable assets to produce new knowledge, appropriate technology, and innovations that benefit society, businesses, and government alike.

“Through this forum, I hope strategic recommendations will emerge to strengthen the synergy of the quadruple helix between academics, government, business, and society, so that research and innovation from Udayana University can make a tangible contribution to the nation's competitiveness at the global level,” said the Rector.

In his presentation, Prof. I Ketut Adnyana elaborated on the strategic challenges facing Indonesia, including climate change, global economic slowdown, social inequality, artificial intelligence disruption, threats of new pandemics, limited demographic bonus period, waste management, and traffic congestion. The objectives of Impactful Diktisaintek are the optimization of higher education institutions, transformation of science and technology, and realizing the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.

He also outlined the policy directions for an integrated research and development ecosystem, as well as research and product downstreaming programs under Diktisaintek.
