HISTORY   

The Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University was founded in 1965 based on the initiative of the Rector of Udayana University, Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra, in collaboration with Dr. Ir. I Gusti Bagus Teken and Ir. Putu Djapa Winaya, M.Sc. Both of them were lecturers at Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). Members of the Committee that established the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University are:

The lecturers of the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University at the time it was established among others consisted of Ir. Putu Djapa Winaya, M.Sc., Ir. Made Swara, Ir. I Gusti Putu Dwija Putra, Nyoman Sutawan, M.Sc., Ir. Made Astawa, Ir. Nyoman Westen, and Ir. Wayan Sudjatha.

The establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University was confirmed based on the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education Number: 102 Year 1967 dated 2 September 1967. At that time, the Faculty only gained the permit to conduct an Associate Degree Program and the academic title of B.Sc. was conferred upon its graduates. The first Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture was Ir. Putu Djapa Winaya M.Sc. Then, pursuant to the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture Number: 0132/0/1976 dated 18 June 1976, the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University gained the permit to conduct the Bachelor Degree Program in Agriculture and opened two departments, namely the Department of Agricultural Engineering and the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics. Furthermore, based on the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Department of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia, Number: 55/Dikti/Kep./1984 dated 31 July 1984, the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University gained the permit to open five (5) departments, namely the Department of Agricultural Cultivation, the Department of Soil, the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics, the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, and the Department of Agricultural Product Technology. The study programs the undergraduate programs of the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University, as set out in the Appendix enclosed hereto the Directorate General of Higher Education, Department of Education and Culture Number: 231/Dikti/Kep/96 dated 11 July 1996, are Agronomy Study Program, Soil Science Study Program, Agricultural Socio-Economics (Agribusiness) Study Program, Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program, and Plant Pest and Disease Study Program. In the academic year of 2006/2007 under the Department of Agricultural Cultivation of the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University, the Landscape Architecture Study Program was opened pursuant to the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Department of National Education, Number: 1193/D/T/2006 dated 12 April 2006.

Based on the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Department of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia, Number: 33/Dikti/Kep/1997 dated 25 February 1997, the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University opened Extension Programs for the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program, the Agribusiness Study Program, the Agronomy Study Program, the Soil Science Study Program, and the Plant Pest and Disease Study Program.

The issuance of the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Department of National Education Number: 163/DIKTI/Kep/2007 dated 29 November 2007 concerning the Arrangement and Codification of Study Programs at the Higher Education Level required that the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University did restructuring to its departments/study programs. It also included restructuring the curriculum, organization and facilities/infrastructure including laboratories. Through such restructuring processes, the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University incorporated all the existing departments and study programs into two departments/study programs, namely the Department/Study Program of Agroecotechnology (resulted from the integration among the Agronomy Study Program, the Soil Study Program, the Plant Pest and Disease Study Program, and the Landscape Architecture Study Program) and the Department/Study Program of Agribusiness (resulted from the integration among the Agricultural Socio-Economics Study Program and the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program). Both departments/study programs resulted from such incorporation processes began recruiting new students in the academic year of 2008/2009.

The Senate Meeting of the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University on 6 September 2010 ratified the proposal to establish fields of interest for the Agroecotechnology Department/Study Program and the Agribusiness Department/Study Program. Furthermore, the Decree of the Rector Number: 76/UN.14/PR/2011 dated 9 March 2011 approved the establishment of seven new fields of interest in the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University. The names of those fields of interest were given based on the history before the restructuring, the potential and the development direction of the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, as well as the need of the stakeholders in the world of work. These fields of interest are intended to facilitate the students’ final assignment, i.e. their thesis. The maximum credits for courses the students must take if they join a particular field of interest are + 15% of the total credits of the undergraduate program (S1). These courses will begin to be offered as students have been in the sixth semester. The Agroecotechnology Department/Study Program as a result of the incorporation of the Department of Agricultural Cultivation (with the Agronomy Study Program and the Landscape Architecture Study Program), the Department of Soil (with the Soil Science Study Program), and the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases (with the Plant Pest and Disease Study Program) offers 5 (five) fields of interest, namely:

a. Field of Interest in Agronomy and Horticulture

b. Field of Interest in Soil Science and Environment

c. Field of Interest in Plant Protection

d. Field of Interest in Landscape Architecture

e. Field of Interest in Agricultural Biotechnology

The Agribusiness Department/Study Program as a result of the incorporation of the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics (with the Agribusiness Study Program and the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program) offers 2 (two) fields of interest, namely:

a. Field of Interest in Business Development

b. Field of Interest in Community Development

Reestablishment of the operating permit for the Undergraduate Program in Landscape Architecture in 2013 by the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture Number: 111/EO/2013 dated 18 April 2013 allowed for admissions of new students for the Landscape Architecture Study Program starting from the academic year of 2013/2014. Furthermore, in the Board Meeting of the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University, it was also decided that the field of interest of landscape architecture was no longer offered to the students in the class of 2013/2014.

The teaching and learning process at the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University since its inception until now underwent a number of improvements. Similarly, the Secretariat Office was also moved several times. Curriculum improvement in accordance with the development and decisions of the Communication Forum of Indonesian Agricultural College (FKPTPI) as well as the instruction of the Directorate General of Higher Education are carried out through Seminars and Workshops held by the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University as well as National Seminars and Workshops. The Seminar and Workshop on Curriculum were held by the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University on 12-13 September 2003. Then, the Seminar and Workshop on Program Restructuring including the seminar and workshop on curriculum was held on 13 March 2008. On 15 February 2010, another workshop on “Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) to Meet the Competency of Graduates in the Department/Study Program” was held. In addition, on 16 February 2010, a workshop on “Strengthening the Teaching and Learning Process to Meet the Competency of Graduates in the Department/Study Program” was also held.

On 15 to 18 March 2011, the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University was delegated by the Communication Forum of Indonesian Agricultural College (FKPTPI) to be the host of FKPTPI’s Workshop XI held at Inna Grand Bali Beach Sanur under the theme of: Strengthening the Core Competences and Entrepreneurship of Agricultural Higher Education in An Attempt to Build National Independence. This workshop discussed mainly the efforts to strengthen entrepreneurship education as the content of the curriculum that had already existed in both new study programs resulting from the restructuring carried out by the Faculty of Agriculture.

As of 1 September 1993, the administration activities of the Faculty of Agriculture which was originally located in Jl. PB Sudirman, Denpasar was moved to the area of the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University in Bukit Jimbaran Campus, Badung.

The Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University has established the Graduate Program, namely the Master Program in Biotechnology (The Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education Number: 187/DIKTI/Kep/1999 dated 29 April 1999), the Master Program in Dry-Land Agriculture (The Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education Number: 188/DIKTI/Kep/1999 dated 29 April 1999), the Master Program in Agribusiness (The Permit of the Directorate General of Higher Education Number: 2538/D/T/2001 dated 2 August 2001), the Doctoral Program in Agricultural Sciences (The Permit of the Directorate General of Higher Education Number: 3538/D/T/2007 dated 5 November 2007).

Vision and mission of Agribusiness

Vision 

To make the Faculty of Agriculture of Udayana University the center for sustainable agricultural science and technology development as well as to generate superior, independent, and cultured human resources.

Missions 

  1. To generate graduates of the undergraduate programs, professional programs and graduate programs in the field of agriculture (Agroecotechnology and Agribusiness) that are superior, independent and cultured on an ongoing basis.
  2. To encourage research in agricultural science and technology that is sustainable and modern and promotes local wisdom.
  3. To conduct community service particularly in Bali and in Indonesia in general.
  4. To implement the three pillars of higher education development, namely: the even distribution and expansion of the access to education; improvement of quality, relevance and competitiveness; and governance, accountability and public image strengthening.
  5. To collaborate on an ongoing basis with research institutions, government agencies, the businesses world and the global community.
