Farm Animal Welfare Training “Knowing the Concept of Farm Animal Welfare as A Veterinarian”

The alumni of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH), Udayana University held a training activity on farm animal welfare on Saturday (4/3) which took place in the Meeting Room Floor 1 of FKH Udayana. The theme of this training activity is "Knowing the Concept of Farm Animal Welfare as A Veterinarian". This training activity is supported by Compassion in World Farming (CIWF), which is an international NGO located in United Kingdom and focuses on farm animal welfare. Through a grant program from CIWF called “Farm Animals in Asia: Funding the Future’, the alumni of FKH Udayana on behalf of drh. Yohana Pratama and the team succeeded in obtaining grant funding support for the implementation of this activity.

The training event was opened by Dr. drh. I Wayan Sudira, M.Si as the Vice Dean (WD3) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University. The training event was also attended by representatives from CIWF on behalf of drh. Gede Sanjaya as Grants Manager Indonesia at CIWF, and was attended by 25 participants who were the students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University and also alumni who had careers as veterinarians.

Furthermore, this training event discussed the concept of five freedoms and regulations governing on farm animal welfare in Indonesia, where this material was presented by drh. Kadek Karang Agustina, MP as a lecturer from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University. This training also discusses the application of the concept of farm animal welfare in Bali and what problems are currently happening or being addressed, where this topic was presented by drh. Ni Wajan Leestyawati, M.Si as an extension worker from Department of Agriculture and Food Security Service of Bali Province.

Through this training, of course it is hoped that prospective veterinarians who graduate from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Udayana University will be able to understand the concept of farm animal welfare and also be able to apply and share this understanding with the public, especially farmers, so that good practices in farm will be even better and are expected to be able to provide decent life for farm animals.
