FOOD REQUIREMENTS INCREASE, UNUD HELD ICBB

Denpasar - Faculty of Agriculture Udayana University in the series to commemorate the Golden Anniversary and 55th Udayana University Dies Natalis held "The 8th International Conference on Biosciences and Biotechnology (ICBB)" with Theme of Bioscience and Biotechnology for The Sustainable Life on Thursday (14/09) / 2017) at Graduate Building Campus Sudirman Denpasar. The event was held in collaboration with the Indonesian Biotechnology Consortium, Indonesian Phytopathological Society and Asia Oceania Bioscience and Biotechnology Consortium and supported by Central Laboratory for Genetic Resources and Molecular Biology Unud and Akita University of Japan.

The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture representing the Rector of Udayana University and attended by AOBBC Chairman, Representative of Indonesian Biotechnology Consortium and Consulate General of Japan. The main speakers at theconference were Prof. Takuya Marumoto (Yamaguchi University Japan) and Dr. Inez S. Loedin (International Rice Research Institute Philippines). Besides that, it also presented Prof. Yoshihiro Natori (United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies, Japan), Prof. Dr. Acram Taji (Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane) and Prof. Bambang Sugiarto (University of Indonesia) as a resource. Topics covered agriculture and food technology, health and medicine, environmental knowledge, veterinary technology, animal husbandry, bio-economy, molecular biology and gene technology.

I Dewa Putu Oka Suardi as Chairman of the Committee conveyed that the conference followed by about 150 participants from various universities throughout Indonesia, LIPI and Consortium of Biosciences Indonesia (KBI). The purpose of its operation is to maintain the sustainability of the agricultural system in the provision of food for the development of the world population and as a meeting place for experts to exchange ideas and science that related to biotechnology. The implementation of the activity was based on the need for food which is increasing along with the development of population, but the product produced has not been able to fulfill, through this conference is expected to be one of the solutions to produce new findings in order to increase agricultural productivity in order to support the sustainability of human life. (PR)
