Located in the third floor Postgraduate courtroom, the Doctoral Promotion exam was held with the promovenda candidate drg. Yudha Rahina, M.Kes with the dissertation title "Dental Health Education with Group Conversation and Online Counseling Methods Improve Knowledge, Motivation and Behavior Instead of Conventional Methods for Mothers of Preschool Children at the Saraswati Foundation College (Exploratory Sequential Mixed Method)." (19/8/2022).

The prevalence of dental caries in preschool children is still high, and most of them are not treated. Lack of parental attention to children's dental disease, is often associated with knowledge, motivation and dental health behavior. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of dental health education between the online group conversation (GPD) method with online and conventional counseling to increase the knowledge, motivation and behavior of mothers of preschool children.

This study uses an exploratory sequential mixed methods design, which begins with a qualitative study, followed by a quantitative study. Qualitative study to explore information on knowledge, motivation and behavior of mothers in caring for children's dental health, and the obstacles. In-depth interviews were conducted on 20 respondents, the results were analyzed in a narrative manner. Quantitative study to determine the effect of dental health education with GPD and counseling on increasing knowledge, motivation and behavior. Randomized pretest-posttest control group design was conducted on 240 samples, which were divided into GPD treatment, counseling and control groups. The results of this study were analyzed by Paired T test, Anova and Post Hoc LSD test.

The results of the qualitative study show that mothers have good knowledge, high motivation and supportive dental health behavior, but some obstacles were found. The main barriers are the knowledge barriers about the prevention of dental caries; motivational barriers to eating, brushing teeth and visiting the dentist; and behavioral barriers to brushing teeth, drinking bottled milk and eating sweet foods, as well as dental treatment.

The conclusion obtained is that mothers of preschool children have good knowledge, high motivation, and behaviors that support children's dental health. However, there are still some obstacles. Dental health education with the GPD method and counseling increases the knowledge, motivation and behavior of mothers than conventional methods. Counseling methods increase motivation higher than GPD. The GPD method is suitable for educating mothers on simple dental health cases, while counseling is more suitable for dental health cases that require special attention.
