Udayana University Holds FGD on Evaluation and Strengthening of Research and Community Service Governance
Kuta – The Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Udayana University organized a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) titled “Evaluation and Strengthening of Research and Community Service Governance in the Framework of Revising the Research and Community Service Guidelines, 11th Edition.” The event took place at Bali Dynasty Resort, Kuta, on Thursday (November 6, 2025).
The discussion was attended by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs representing the Rector of Udayana University, representatives from the Bali Provincial Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA), Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), business and industry sectors (DUDI), as well as lecturers and researchers from various faculties within Udayana University.
In his report, Chairman of LPPM Udayana University, Prof. Dr. drh. I Nyoman Suartha, M.Si., stated that the FGD was motivated by the ongoing large-scale transformation of research in Indonesia. This transformation involves changes in research funding policies, strengthening of downstreaming and national innovation programs, and alignment with the strategic research directions set by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek).
“In line with these dynamics, Udayana University must adjust its strategies and strengthen research governance. At the same time, the need to reinforce research governance at the faculty, study center, and research unit levels has become increasingly urgent to support the implementation of an integrated, transparent, and accountable research system aligned with Udayana University’s vision and mission,” Prof. Suartha explained.
He further emphasized that the main goal of the FGD is to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of research and community service governance, review and improve internal grant schemes to make them more effective and adaptable to national policies, and align Udayana University’s research and community service direction with institutional priorities and regional development needs.
In his address, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ir. I Nengah Sujaya, M.Agr.Sc., Ph.D., representing the Rector, underlined the importance of transforming research to focus not only on academic outputs but also on generating tangible impacts for society, industry, and local government.
“Research must move beyond producing academic outputs and become research that delivers real impact,” he stated.
He also added that strengthening research governance is not limited to administrative aspects but also involves a shift in academic culture and mindset.
“We must foster a research culture that is excellent, innovative, and collaborative. A strong research ecosystem—ranging from funding and partnerships to innovation incubation—is key for Udayana University’s research to address real challenges faced by Bali and Indonesia,” he continued.
The FGD featured a presentation from Dr. Ketut Wica, S.Sos., M.H, representing BRIDA Bali Province, who delivered a talk titled “Transformation of University Research and Innovation: Supporting Industrial Competitiveness and Delivering Real Impact to Society.”
The event continued with focused discussions, breakout sessions, and joint formulation of recommendations facilitated by the LPPM team. The outcomes of these discussions are expected to produce policy recommendations and practical action plans to strengthen research and community service governance at Udayana University, which will serve as key input for the preparation of the 2025 Research and Community Service Guidelines, 11th Edition.
