Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Sciences (FKP) Commemorates Its 14th Anniversary with the Theme “Blue Innovation Towards Impactful Udayana”
Jimbaran, October 10, 2025 — The Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Sciences (FKP) of Udayana University held the 14th Anniversary Celebration of the FKP Family Association (BKFKP) at the Samudra Hall, 4th Floor, Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Sciences Building, Jimbaran Campus. The event was attended by the Rector of Udayana University, the Chair of the FKP Senate, Deans, Vice Deans, partner representatives, faculty members, staff, and students of FKP, along with invited guests.
In his report, the Chair of the Committee, Ir. Moh Saifulloh, S.P., M.Sc., shared that several activities had been carried out in commemoration of the 14th anniversary, including a Focus Group Discussion (FGD)—a collaborative forum between partners, government agencies, and academic communities of FKP—which recently launched a communication forum. In addition, a community service program was held in Purwakerti Village, Karangasem, focusing on improving the economic capacity of coastal and marine communities.
“These activities integrate academia and stakeholders to realize Udayana Berdampak (Impactful Udayana), in line with this year’s theme ‘Blue Innovation Towards Impactful Udayana,’ which also resonates with the 63rd Udayana University Anniversary theme: ‘Impactful and Globally Competitive Udayana,’” he explained.
The Dean of the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Sciences, Prof. I Wayan Nuarsa, highlighted that the anniversary serves as an important moment for reflection on the faculty’s achievements and progress over the past year, as well as for formulating strategic steps to face future challenges.
Founded on October 10, 2012, FKP has now reached its 14th year—a meaningful journey filled with challenges and accomplishments worth celebrating.
Currently, FKP offers four study programs. Among them, the Marine Science Study Program has earned Excellent Accreditation and is being prepared for international accreditation by ASIIN, with the organizing committee already formed. Meanwhile, the newly established Aquaculture Study Program has begun admitting new students, reflecting FKP’s strong commitment to meeting the needs of the modern marine and fisheries sector. FKP continues to grow as a dynamic academic community committed to the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in the field of marine and fisheries sciences.
In the past year, FKP achieved significant milestones, meeting five out of eight Key Performance Indicators (KPI) targets. Its tracer study recorded a 100% response rate, with 69% of alumni currently employed, pursuing further education, or running their own businesses. In governance, FKP’s Integrity Zone (ZI) evaluation scored 80.67, making it eligible for further monitoring and evaluation toward Corruption-Free Zone (WBK) status. FKP also received the ARA-2 Boat Grant from MTCRC, currently being docked, and successfully installed an ADS-B monitoring system in collaboration with JAMSTEC and BRIN.
FKP continues to showcase its research and innovation through flagship products such as Bacton-01, a probiotic for shrimp aquaculture developed by Dr. Pande Gede Sasmita J. The faculty is also enhancing its income-generating potential, including public laboratory testing services, training and certification programs in Remote Sensing and GIS, diving training and certification, international short courses, and the development of fisheries business ventures.
To strengthen the synergy between research and policy implementation, FKP also initiated a Multi-Stakeholder Focus Group Discussion (FGD) aimed at formulating research-based solutions to challenges in the marine and fisheries sector. Through these initiatives, FKP continues to demonstrate its commitment to becoming a center of excellence for education, research, and innovation in marine sciences with international competitiveness.
Meanwhile, the Rector of Udayana University, Prof. I Ketut Sudarsana, emphasized that the FKP Anniversary celebration is a significant opportunity to strengthen collaboration and shared commitment in advancing the faculty. He underscored the importance of continuous innovation and dedication among all academic members to build a faculty that is excellent, adaptive, and highly competitive.
The Rector also highlighted the need to enhance public communication strategies so that the broader community becomes more aware of FKP’s strengths and potential. This effort is expected to increase public interest, particularly among the youth in Bali—many of whom depend on the marine and fisheries sector—to pursue studies at FKP.
He noted that FKP plays a vital role in shaping public understanding of the benefits and career opportunities offered through education in marine and fisheries sciences, which in turn contributes to increasing new student enrollment each year.
Furthermore, the Rector expressed hope that FKP would serve as a driving force for regional self-sufficiency in Bali’s marine and fisheries product supply chain. By managing local potential holistically, FKP can contribute not only to regional food security but also become an income generator for both the faculty and the university.
The Rector also encouraged the development of a swimming pool facility integrated with the university’s sports center, which can serve both as a practical learning site and a public facility, optimizing the use of university assets. Collaborative partnerships are being explored to ensure these facilities deliver broad benefits and support the university’s financial sustainability.
Finally, the Rector emphasized the importance of promoting and downstreaming innovation products developed by FKP and Udayana University at large. This step aims to expand the social and economic impact of research results and reinforce the university’s role in contributing to regional development.
The university leadership remains committed to supporting FKP’s initiatives in advancing innovation, strengthening collaboration, and enhancing its contribution to society and the nation.
