Udayana University Welcomes Visit from the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration to Discuss Collaboration on Establishing an Immigration Studies Center

Jimbaran – Udayana University received a visit from the Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration for an official audience on Monday (October 20, 2025) at the Rectorate Building, Jimbaran Campus.

This visit followed up on a previous meeting held on June 12, 2025, between the leadership of Udayana University and officials from the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, which discussed potential collaboration in the fields of academia and public policy.

The delegation was welcomed by the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information (WR IV) of Udayana University, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Made Sucipta, S.T., M.T., IPM, accompanied by the Head of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) and the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Information of the Faculty of Law. From the Immigration Office, the Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, along with several structural officials, were in attendance.

The discussion centered on a strategic collaboration plan between Udayana University and the Directorate General of Immigration, Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, particularly in the areas of research, education, and immigration policy development. One of the main points addressed was the establishment of an Immigration Studies Center within Udayana University—specifically under the Faculty of Law—as well as plans to introduce Immigration Law courses into the faculty’s curriculum.

This initiative has received official approval from the Director General of Immigration and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs as of late September 2025, marking a strong commitment to enhancing synergy between academia and government in developing research-based public policy.

In his remarks, Prof. Made Sucipta expressed his appreciation for this collaborative initiative and affirmed Udayana University’s readiness to proceed through formal cooperation mechanisms.

“Udayana University fully supports the establishment of this Immigration Studies Center. This initiative not only opens a new and strategic research domain but also delivers tangible benefits for the people of Bali and for national development—particularly in supporting investment and the governance of international mobility. We are ready to facilitate the drafting of an MoU and implementing agreement to realize this collaboration,” said Prof. Made Sucipta.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Dr. Parlindungan, S.H., M.H., conveyed his strong support for collaborating with Udayana University as an academic partner in the development of national immigration policy.

“We see tremendous potential in this collaboration. The establishment of the Indonesian Center for Immigration Policy and Analysis at the Faculty of Law, Udayana University, is expected to become a collaborative platform connecting practitioners, academics, and the public. Through this center, we aim to foster policy research that can address immigration challenges in the era of globalization—especially in international tourism regions such as Bali,” he stated.

Furthermore, the center is expected to serve as a research-based policy laboratory, producing academic recommendations on various immigration issues such as the movement of foreign workers, immigration supervision, and visa policies for the tourism and investment sectors.
