Unud Deploys Health and Medical Teams to Sumatra
Jimbaran – Universitas Udayana (Unud) once again demonstrated its commitment to community service by deploying a Health Team and a Medical Team to Sumatra. The send-off ceremony was held at the Front Lobby of the Rectorate Building, Jimbaran Campus, on Saturday (December 20, 2025).
The teams were officially dispatched by the Rector of Universitas Udayana, accompanied by the Chair of the Senate, Vice Rectors, and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Udayana. This initiative is part of Unud’s efforts to support health services and medical response in areas in need.
Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Udayana, Prof. Dr. dr. I Gede Eka Wiratnaya, Sp.OT., Subsp. Onk. Ort. R (K), stated that the team was formed on very short notice and would depart the following day to the disaster-affected area, particularly Sibolga, Tapanuli. He expressed hope that the team would carry out their duties well, remain healthy, and safely return to Universitas Udayana after completing their mission.
The deployed personnel consist of a Health Team and a Medical Team with diverse professional backgrounds. The Health Team includes Dinar Saurmauli Lubis, SKM, MPH, Ph.D, Bdn. Putu Cynthia Devi Irmayanti, M.Biomed (Midwife), and Luh Diah Parasuari, a student of the Master’s Program in Public Health Sciences (MIKM).
Meanwhile, the Medical Team comprises medical professionals, namely Dr. dr. Putu Aryani, S.Ked., MIH., Sp.KKLP., Sub.Sp.COPC, dr. Desak Putu Rendang Indriyani, Sp.A (Pediatrics), dr. I Putu Ardinata (Surgical Resident), dr. Kristian Gerry Raymond Sinarta Bangun (Neurosurgery Resident), and dr. Gede Agung Setya Wibawa (Internal Medicine Resident).
In addition to health and medical personnel, the mission also involves students who are members of the Janar Duta Medical Assistance Team (TBM), namely Ni Nyoman Gayatri Virananda and Faruq Ghani Alamsyah, reflecting active student participation in humanitarian and community service activities.
Team Leader Dinar Saurmauli Lubis, SKM, MPH, Ph.D explained that initially only two health workers were available, while the request was for ten personnel. Through coordination led by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, the team was subsequently formed. The team has also coordinated with the host institution, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and has been assigned to Tuka Subdistrict, Central Tapanuli Regency, approximately 12 hours from Medan and 30 minutes from Sibolga City. On Monday, the team will report to the local Health Office and coordinate with the Ministry of Health Crisis Center and the Provincial Government. The assistance to be provided includes basic health services and reproductive health services, as well as health education through the distribution of books produced by the Public Health Study Program. The team will be on duty until December 27, and they seek prayers and support from the university leadership so they can perform their duties effectively and bring benefits to the local community.
In his remarks, Rector of Universitas Udayana Prof. Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, S.T., Ph.D expressed his gratitude to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and the teams, emphasizing that this initiative reflects dedication and compassion for others. He noted that the current conditions in the disaster-affected areas are well known and conveyed his pride in the teams and the students who have volunteered to serve in Sumatra. The Rector reminded the teams to always maintain their health and safety while carrying out this noble humanitarian mission and to uphold the good name of the institution.
Through the deployment of these teams, Universitas Udayana hopes to make a tangible contribution to improving health services in Sumatra while strengthening the role of higher education institutions in addressing community health needs.
