Denpasar – Udayana University, through its Faculty of Engineering, officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the CoRE Program in Science and Engineering with the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Ibaraki University, Japan, on Wednesday, 18 December 2025. This signing marks an important milestone in strengthening international cooperation in the fields of science and engineering, particularly in the development of doctoral-level education and research collaboration between the two institutions.
The event was attended by the Dean of the College of Engineering of Ibaraki University, Prof. Dr. Masatomo Inui, along with university leaders and professors from Ibaraki University, the leadership of Udayana University, deans, lecturers, researchers, and postgraduate students who participated both offline and online. The signing of the MoA between the Faculty of Engineering of Udayana University and the Graduate School of Science and Engineering of Ibaraki University reflects a shared commitment to strengthening global academic networks.
In his remarks, the Rector of Udayana University, Prof. I Ketut Sudarsana, emphasized that this collaboration represents a strategic step in advancing international academic partnerships. “The signing of this Memorandum of Agreement is a strategic initiative by Udayana University to strengthen international academic collaboration, particularly in the development of doctoral education and joint research in the fields of science and engineering,” stated the Rector.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the College of Engineering of Ibaraki University, Prof. Dr. Masatomo Inui, explained that the cooperation extends beyond joint supervision of doctoral students and is also directed toward developing a more integrated education system. “We are also planning to develop a joint degree system with Udayana University as a further step to strengthen academic and research collaboration,” Prof. Inui noted.
In line with this, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of Udayana University, Prof. Linawati, stated that the focus of the cooperation aligns with the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education. “In the near future, we are also working to fill opportunities under the MEXT Scholarship, as well as special scholarships from Ibaraki University that provide funding of 500,000 yen per year for young lecturers of Udayana University,” she explained, adding that research collaboration and doctoral education are the main priorities in the initial phase of the partnership.
The cooperation through the CoRE Program in Science and Engineering also opens opportunities to strengthen joint research in various leading fields of science and engineering. With the support of Ibaraki University’s research excellence, particularly in technology, industry, energy, and sustainability, this collaboration is expected to enhance research capacity, international publications, and the quality of human resources at Udayana University.
Through the signing of this MoA, Udayana University reaffirms its commitment to developing sustainable and impactful international collaborations oriented toward improving the quality of higher education. It is hoped that the collaboration between Udayana University and Ibaraki University will produce outstanding doctoral graduates, internationally competitive research, and tangible contributions to sustainable development at both national and global levels.
