As a form of concern for agriculture and to support organic local regulations, the Master Program in Agricultural Biotechnology and Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University carries out community service activities by providing counseling and training on the use of microorganisms for health and disease control of horticultural crops, to farmers in Subak Abian Lila Cita. , Pancasari Village, Sukasada District, Buleleng,

 

The joint service of the Master Program in Agricultural Biotechnology and the Doctor of Agricultural Sciences was held on July 2 and 3, 2022, and was attended by 50 members of the Subak Kelihan.

 

Kelihan Subak Abian Lila Cita, Pancasari Village, Sukasada District, I Ketut Supartha is very grateful and appreciates the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University who wants to go directly to the field to provide counseling and assistance to farmers in terms of the use of microorganisms for Health and Control of Horticultural Plant Diseases.

 

“I represent the farmers in Subak Abian Lila Cita, very grateful for the presence of lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, especially the Master Program in Agricultural Biotechnology and Doctor of Science, who are willing to listen and respond to the wishes of farmers in Subak Lila Cita Pancasari to be trained in using microbes in efforts to produce vegetables," he said

 

Furthermore, Ketut Supartha hopes that activities like this can continue to be carried out so that the knowledge of farmers can be further increased so that it has an impact on increasing agricultural production.

 

Head of the Masters Program in Biotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Unud, Dr. GN Alit Susanta Wirya, SP., M.Agr. in his presentation, he explained about the efficacy of Trichoderma as a controlling agent for soil-borne diseases in horticultural crops.

 

"Trichoderma mixed with various types of animal manure compost such as goat, cow, chicken manure and leaf compost has been tested for its ability to control wilt disease in strawberry plants and can reduce clubroot disease in cabbage plants, as long as the application is carried out since the nursery," he explained.

 

PGPR researcher who is also a lecturer in the Master Program in Agricultural Biotechnology, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dewa Ngurah Suprapta, M.Sc. explained about the role of Plant Growth promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR), which has many functions including being able to increase plant fertility by increasing the number of root hairs so that they are able to absorb nutrients optimally.

 

“Another function of PGPR is also able to make plants more resistant to disease. PGPR is usually applied only once during the nursery which will be able to function for the rest of its life,” he explained.

 

Prof. Ngurah Suprapta added that Plant Growth promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) has now been widely used for rice plants which have also been successful for vegetable crops such as Pakchoi and Cabbage.

 

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Ir I Nyoman Wijaya, M.S. explain about the pests that often attack horticultural crops.

 

"In horticultural crops, apart from damaging plants, there are many pests that function as virus vectors such as Aphis and Bemisia tabacci," he explained.

 

Meanwhile, Prof. Nyoman Wijaya, who is a Pest Researcher and lecturer in the Doctoral Program of Agricultural Sciences, on the occasion also explained that in the Pancasari area, which grows a lot of chilies, fruit flies are often attacked by fruit flies, which causes a lot of chili to fall out. To control fruit flies, Prof. Wijaya suggests using traps such as pheromones.

 

At the end of the extension, the subak members together with the master students of Biotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University together made compost enriched with Trichoderma.

 

On this occasion, Egary, whose active ingredient was PGPR, was produced by the Biopesticide and Trichoderma lab production, as well as a reference book for Strawberry wilt disease in Bali and its control with Trichoderma, produced by the Plant Diseases Lab, FP Unud, for subak members, Abian Lila Cita.
