History

The development of agricultural technology field at Udayana University has been started since 1962, initiated by the Animal Husbandry Product Technology Section, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry (FKHP), which is now named as the Faculty of Animal Husbandry (Fapet). Furthermore, ever since 1967, Agricultural Product Technology Study has been managed by the Faculty of Agriculture (FP), Udayana University.
After observing the rapid development of technology empowerment needs in the agricultural sector in a broad sense, and the development of science and technology of agricultural technology field at several universities, both at home and abroad, thus Udayana University (Unud), via the Rector's Decree No. 485/ SK/ PT.17/ R-VII.1983 established a new course, namely the Agricultural Technology Study Program (PSTP) in order to organize undergraduate program (S-1). Upon the results of the academic and administrative feasibility study on the incorporation of Agricultural Technology Study Program, as proposed by Udayana University, in 1984, PTSP finally received opening and operating license from the Directorate of Higher Education, through the Directorate General for Higher Education Decree, Department of Education, Republic of Indonesia, Number 55/ DIKTI/ Kep/ 1984, thus they have been allowed to accept new students starting that time on.
At the beginning of the formation, the educational curriculum of PSTP was characterized by agricultural technology field in a broad sense. Furthermore, ever since 1995, a specialization or major concentration of science has begun to be developed, managed by organizational unit called The Section.
From that time on, the Agricultural Product Technology (THP), Agricultural Industrial Technology (TIP) and the Agricultural Engineering (TEP) were established. Based on the evaluation results conducted by the Directorate General for Higher Education, thus the Section THP turned into PS. THP, through the Director General for Higher Education Decree No. 231/ DIKTI/ Kep/ 1996, dated July 11, 1996, Section TIP turned into PS. TIP, via the Decree of Director General for Higher Education No. 3956/ D/ T/ 2001, dated December 28, 2001 and TEP section turned into PS. TEP Director General of Higher Education Decree No. 2049/ D/ T/ 2004, dated June 11, 2004.

Owing to the success in managing the educational program, the hard work of PSTP academic community and by the virtue of feasibility evaluation towards the graduates’ competence qualifications yielded, managers’ resource, the infrastructure and facilities owned, and the pre-tested funding abilities and the academic management skills, thus based on the instructions and the approval of the Directorate General for Higher Education, the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP) could be incorporated based on the Rector’s Decree of Udayana University, dated October 7, 2004, No. 271.A/ J14/ PR.01.10/ 2004. Since 2004, FTP has become one of the faculties under the auspices by Udayana University. The formation of this faculty is followed by changes in the Sections, by Rector's Decree Number 160/ J14/ KP.02.18/ 2005, dated June 15, 2005. Hence, there are three departments under the umbrella of Faculty of Agricultural Technology, i.e. Agricultural Product Technology Department, Agricultural Engineering Department, and Agricultural Industry Technology Department.

Recently, the Agricultural Product Technology Study Program (PSTHP) changed its name into Food Science and Technology Study Program (PS ITP) via Rector’s Decree No. 16/ H14/ PR/ 2009, January 8, 2009. Thereby, THP Department also changed into ITP Department.
