History

Department of Chemistry at the University of Udayana was established based on UNUD Rector Decree no. 613 / PT.17 / I.12 / 1984 dated July 1, 1984 and under the auspices of Study Program of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (PS MIPA). By the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No. 66 / Higher Education / Kep.1988 dated November 1 1988, Department of Chemistry, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences PS UNUD changed its status to the level of the Department of Chemistry Study Program under the Faculty of Animal Husbandry. Furthermore, the Director General of Higher Education Decree No. 81 / Dikti / Kep. / 1989 dated September 20 1989, its status was changed again to the Inter-Faculty of Chemistry Study Program directly under the Rector. On October 22, 1993 came out Education Minister Decree No. 0382/0/1993 about the formation of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA), which combined the Udayana University Study Program of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. By the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 071 / Dikti / Kep / 1994, the Department of Chemistry together with other departments formed as an academic unit at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Udayana.

All the activities carried out by the Chemistry Study Program (1984 - 1986) took place on the campus of the University of Udayana Jl. PB Sudirman and Jl. Dr. Goris No. 7 Denpasar. Furthermore, at the beginning of 1986 several lectures and lab work conducted on UNUD Campus of Bukit Jimbaran. Then the entire academic and administrative activities of PS Chemistry were transferred from Denpasar Campus to   Bukit Jimbaran fully in 1987. Until now, the Department of FMIPA UNUD has its office in Bukit Jimbaran Campus by occupying three buildings with FG, FH, FI, and a storage building materials / chemicals (Building FM).

At the beginning of the journey Department of Chemistry, Mathematics and Natural Sciences PS Udayana University used the curriculum of FMIPA Chemistry Department of the University of Airlangga, Surabaya. It was made based on the consideration of the lecturer giving the lectures, which were very limited, relatively junior rank lecturers, as well as practicum largely cannot be implemented because of the facilities, including laboratories, equipment and chemicals are very limited. Likewise a cooperative relations between the University of Udayana with the University of Airlangga for the completion of the final project students from the Department of Chemistry PS Mathematics and Natural Sciences UNUD.

During the journey up to 1990, the numbers of lecturers multiplied and qualify as lecturers for S1, then based on faculty meeting it was decided to no longer needed to send students to UNAIR. However, the Department of Chemistry of UNAIR curriculum is still used in the Department of Chemistry UNUD because the new curriculum has not been compiled. Furthermore, the starting point in the national curriculum, the Department of Chemistry FMIPA Udayana University prepared and issued a new curriculum on May 5, 1995. The 1995 curriculum put into effect from the academic year 1995/1996 to the new students.

Department of Chemistry further evaluated the curriculum that has been in effect since 5 years previously. Curriculum of 2000 was hled in force since the beginning of the school year 2000/2001. In 2002, the Minister of Education issued Decree No. 045 / DIKTI / 2002 on competency-based curriculum (KBK). To respond to this, the evaluation of the curriculum in 2000 and in 2005 the curriculum was issued in 2005, which came into force in the academic year 2006/2007.

Furthermore, in 2012 implemented a revised curriculum that aimed to develop KBK in Chemistry Study Program in order to improve the quality of higher education and graduated according to the National Qualifications Framework Indonesia (KKNI) or Indonesian Qualification Framework. Based on the President of the Republic of Indonesia Regulation No. 8 of 2012 on KKNI stated that outputs S1 in KKNI occupied qualification level 6. In addition, the revised curriculum implemented on the basis of the results of Tracer Study, among which concluded that there is still a significant gap some component relevant  with soft skills amongst acquired in college to what is required in the world of work. This curriculum revision generated a curriculum year of 2013 implemented from the academic year 2013/2014.

Accreditation of BAN-PT Department of Chemistry FMIPA University of Udayana implemented in 2001, 2006, and 2012. For three times accreditation, accreditation rank obtained was always good (B). In 2016, Department of Chemistry FMIPA of University of Udayana will be implementing the accreditation.
