Tracing the Legacy of King Udayana, Welcoming the 63rd Anniversary of Udayana University

Gianyar – Udayana University held a commemorative pilgrimage tracing the journey of King Udayana in celebration of its 63rd Anniversary on Friday (August 8, 2025). This annual event is traditionally held in the lead-up to the university’s anniversary. The pilgrimage included prayer ceremonies at several temples in Gianyar Regency, starting with Gunung Kawi Temple, followed by Tirta Mengening Temple, Tirta Empul Temple, and concluding at Durghakutri Temple.

The 63rd Anniversary Pilgrimage was attended by the Rector, Vice Rectors, Senate Chair, institutional leaders, faculty and postgraduate school deans, lecturers, staff representatives, students, unit heads, members of the Udayana University Women’s Association (DWP), and the anniversary organizing committee. The pilgrimage aimed to pray for the safety and smooth running of all anniversary events, culminating in the main celebration on September 29, 2025.

Rector of Udayana University, Prof. I Ketut Sudarsana, stated that in this year’s anniversary, the pilgrimage involved prayer at four temples—Gunung Kawi, Mengening, Tirta Empul, and Dhurgakutri. "We seek blessings and guidance from Ida Sesuhunan, the Almighty God, so that Udayana University’s anniversary and its future may be blessed with progress and improved performance," he said. The pilgrimage coincided with the sacred full moon day, Rahina Purnama.

Chairperson of the 63rd Anniversary Committee, I Made Agus Dharmadiatmika, added that, “Astungkara” (God willing), the pilgrimage went smoothly. As in previous years, it was attended by the Rector, Deans, Senate Chair, and members of the academic community including the organizing committee, with around 200 participants. The aim of the pilgrimage is to honor the historical journey of King Udayana through the temples he is associated with. It also marks the beginning of a series of anniversary events, which are hoped to proceed smoothly.
