Rector of Udayana University Signs MoU with East Manggarai Regent, Accompanied by a Cooperation Agreement with the Faculty of Tourism
Denpasar – Udayana University has established a partnership with the Government of East Manggarai Regency, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Rector of Udayana University and the Regent of East Manggarai. The signing took place at the Postgraduate Building, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, on Monday (August 4, 2025).
As a follow-up to the MoU, a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) was also signed between the Dean of the Faculty of Tourism at Udayana University and the Head of the East Manggarai Regency Tourism and Culture Office.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Rector of Udayana University, the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information, the Dean and Vice Deans of the Faculty of Tourism, along with their staff, as well as the Regent of East Manggarai and the Head of the Tourism and Culture Office and their delegation.
In his remarks, the Rector of Udayana University, Prof. I Ketut Sudarsana, emphasized that this collaboration reflects the university’s commitment to its mission in the field of education. As an educational institution, Unud is responsible for producing high-quality human resources through education, research, and community service.
"This partnership is one way to bring real impact to society. In this case, we hope Unud can make a contribution in East Manggarai Regency. Through this cooperation, we can develop a strategic partnership with the regional government, utilizing resources together through research and other collaborative initiatives," he said.
The Rector also stated that Udayana University currently has 13 faculties, which could potentially collaborate with East Manggarai in various fields. “This MoU provides a framework for broader collaboration. We are very open to working together and actively contributing in East Manggarai through the faculties at Unud,” he added.
He also opened the opportunity for students to carry out community service programs (KKN – Student Community Service) in East Manggarai as part of this partnership.
Meanwhile, the Regent of East Manggarai, Agas Andreas, S.H., M.Hum., in his speech, stated that this was the second cooperation agreement signed with Udayana University, and that the previous collaboration had already delivered tangible benefits.
"This cooperation is aimed at jointly studying and finding solutions to regional issues. East Manggarai has great potential in agriculture, livestock, and tourism. In the past five years, we’ve developed several tourism villages, focusing on community empowerment. One of these villages has progressed significantly and is now ranked among the top nine tourism villages in Indonesia,” he said.
In line with the regency’s vision of a progressive, prosperous, and sustainable East Manggarai, the Regent expressed hope that this vision will be realized through the development of human resources with adaptive skills aligned with scientific and technological advancement. He emphasized that achieving this requires collaboration and support from multiple parties.
"In addition to our partnership with Udayana University, we have also collaborated with the University of Indonesia (UI) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM). We hope Unud can continue to support us, especially in the area of tourism development," he added.
The Regent concluded by stating that the signed MoU will serve as a platform for knowledge and technology transfer from academic institutions to support the development of East Manggarai Regency.
