Jakarta – Udayana University (Unud) held an audience with the Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Mukhtarudin, at the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) Office in South Jakarta on Tuesday (June 2, 2026).

This audience was held to explore collaboration and draft a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) to strengthen the development of competent human resources ready to compete in the global job market.

The audience was led by the Rector of Udayana University, Prof. Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, S.T., Ph.D., who was accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Unud, Prof. Dr. Drs. I Nengah Punia, M.Si. Meanwhile, Minister Mukhtarudin was accompanied by the Secretary General of KP2MI, Commissioner General of Police Dwiyono.

During the meeting, the Minister of P2MI stated that the institutional transformation from an agency to a ministry carries a greater mandate to strengthen the governance of Indonesian labor migration, from protection aspects to improving the quality of migrant workers to ensure a predominance of skilled workers.

According to Minister Mukhtarudin, Indonesia currently has a significant opportunity to capitalize on its demographic dividend, especially amidst the increasing need for labor in countries experiencing an aging population, such as Japan, Italy, Turkey, and several others.

The Minister also encouraged Udayana University to establish the Udayana Migrant Center as a hub for information, consultation, and competency development services for students, alumni, and the public interested in working abroad safely and procedurally. Four potential strategic collaborations were discussed during the meeting.

First, providing education and improving human resource competencies through foreign language training programs, understanding work culture, and international certification to prepare students and alumni as global talents. Second, the establishment of the Udayana Migrant Center, integrated with the campus career services, will serve as a center for education and consultation on overseas job opportunities. Third, strengthening collaboration on research, innovation, and the exchange of data and information to support policymaking related to migration governance and the protection of migrant workers. Fourth, developing global talent in priority sectors such as health, tourism, hospitality, and foreign languages, which are Udayana University’s strengths.

Minister Mukhtarudin hopes this collaboration can be realized soon as a strategic step in producing Indonesian professionals who are ready to work and compete internationally.

In response, the Rector of Udayana University, Prof. Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, S.T., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for the support and direction provided by the Minister of P2MI. He stated that Udayana University has sufficient capacity to support human resource development through its 13 faculties with over 33,000 active students.

“The Minister’s explanation was very clear and in line with the university’s role in strengthening human resources. We see a strong link and match between the needs of the global job market and the competencies possessed by Udayana University,” said the Rector.

The Rector explained that Udayana University has collaborated on alumni placements abroad, particularly in the tourism sector. Through collaboration with KP2MI, the program is expected to be more structured and comprehensive, providing optimal protection for graduates.

Furthermore, the Rector added that Udayana University already has various supporting programs, including a Mandarin language training center, a Japanese Language Study Program, and the development of wellness tourism, one of the university’s leading focuses.
These competencies are considered highly relevant to global workforce needs, particularly in the healthcare, hospitality, and wellness sectors.

As a follow-up to this audience, the Rector of Udayana University also invited the Minister of P2MI to attend the Unud campus and deliver a public lecture to the academic community regarding opportunities and strategies for working abroad safely, professionally, and in accordance with procedures.

This audience is expected to be a strategic initial step in realizing synergy between Udayana University and the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers to produce a competent, globally competitive young generation capable of making a real contribution to national development.
