EFFECTS OF DAYAK (Eluetherine palmifolia (L.) Merr) ON MACROFAG ACTIVITY AND MACROFAG CAPACITY IN MICROSULTURE INFECTED Staphylococcus aureus

Bawang dayak (Eluetherine palmifolia (L.) Merr) has potential to stimulate an immune response. The current research was conducted to determine the effect of bawang dayak (Eluetherine palmifolia (L.) Merr) ethanol extract on the macrophages activities and capacyties. A total of 36 mices were divided into 3 group. Control group was only given distilled aquades. The second group was given 5% concentration of bawang dayak (Eluetherine palmifolia (L.) Merr) ethanol extract and the third group was given 10% concentration of bawang dayak (Eluetherine palmifolia (L.) Merr) ethanol extract. Treatment is given from the first day until seventh day. On the eighth day, each mice was injected to intraperitoneally by bacterium Staphylococcus auerus. Macrophage cells activities and capacyties were counted from peritoneal slide smears by counting percentage of phagocytes that doing phagocytosis of 100 phagocyt cells. Phagocytic capacyties determined by the count of Staphylococcus aureus from 50 active phagocytes. Ethanol extract of bawang dayak (Eluetherina palmifolia ( L. ) Merr) with a concentration of 10 % proven to significantly increase the activity (34.426.612) and capacity (720.42183.262) compared with 5% concentration of activity (29.586.445) and capacity (579.58161.302) and control activities (10.675.245) and capacity (578.08186.941) . Phagocytosis increases with increasing doses of ethanol extract of garlic dayak and duration of contact macrophages and microbes.
