(CAPACITY AND ACTIVITIES MACROPHAGES OF MICE (Mus musculus) PROVIDED EXTRACT ETANOL KUMIS KUCING (Orthosiphon aristatus)

Kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) has potential to stimulate an immune response. The current research was conducted to determine the effect of extract Kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) on the macrophages activities and capacyties. 36 mices were divided into 3 group. Control group was only given distilled aquades. The second group was given 5% concentration of Kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) extract and the third group was given 10% concentration of Kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) extract. Treatment is given from the first day until seventh day. On the eighth day, each mice was injected to intraperitoneally by bacterium Staphylococcus auerus. Macrophage cells activities and capacyties were counted from peritoneal slide smears by counting percentage of phagocytes that doing phagocytosis of 100 phagocyt cells. Phagocytic capacyties determined by the count of Staphylococcus aureus from 50 active phagocytes. According to enhancement of dose, phagocytic capacyties and activities increased on the Kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) extract and interval times. The lowest capacity encounter on the control of 578.1 ± 186.9 cell per 50 macrophages and highest capacity of macrophages were observed in mice treated Kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) extract at the concentration of 10% with the capacity of 723.1 ± 181.7 cells per 50 macrophage. The lowest activity encounter on the control of 10.7 ± 5.2 cells per 100 macrophages and the highest activity of macrophages were observed in mice treated Kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) extract at the concentration of 10% with the activity of 35.2 ± 6.2 cells per 100 macrophages. Conclusions from this research is the extract of Kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus) effect on the activity and phagocytic capacity of macrophages. Further research is needed on the dose and interval of contact with the microbes on the phagocytic capacity and activity of macrophages.
