Softphone Application Development Using SIP protocol

The use of VoIP technology is certainly beneficial for its users, but the IP network used by VoIP technology has a weakness on sound quality. Data package delivery failure, delay, and jitter can affect the sound quality on VoIP (Cahyadi et al, 2013). The use of VoIP technology is also inseparable from the crucial role of protocol. In this study the protocol used was the SIP protocol. SIP protocol is a signaling protocol at the application of layer protocol that is used to build, modify, and terminate multimedia sessions involving a single or multiple users. Multimedia session is the exchange of data between users that include sound, video, and text. To overcome these problems, we need a softphone application that implements the SIP protocol. Selection of audio codec also affects the quality of the output, in which the codec used in this study include G.711, G.722 and G.729. The resulting system was able to implement SIP protocol. Tests used a blackbox testing on SIP protocol functions and features in the application as a form of implementation that has been declared invalid, where all the test results are in accordance with the functional requirements of the system
