DESIGN MODELING OF MICRO HYDRO POWER (MHP) USING OVERSHOT WATERWHEEL

The dependence of power generation on energy sources such as solar, natural gas and coal are nearly 75%, led to the development of renewable energy to meet growing electricity supply. One is the micro-hydro power plants by utilizing the available water. The working principle of MHP is by changing the potential energy of water into electrical energy. In this final project has been designed modeling of micro-hydro power plants using turbines overshot wheel. Where the wheel is used has the form of a half-circle, with a diameter of 50 cm, width 10 cm, and the number of blades 16 pieces. Measurements made on modeling of micro-hydro power plants, include: water discharge, water pressure, wheel rotation, rotation generator, voltage, current, power generator output, torque and efficiency. The parameters measured by changing the water fall at the wheel of nozzle angle positions 00, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350 and 400. The results of measurements have been done on parameters modeling of micro-hydro power plants, the highest measurement results obtained on the nozzle angle 300. Where the generated power output is 0,153 watts, torque is 0,012 Nm and an efficiency of 25,5%. The results obtained are still low due to wheel rotation is less able to turn a generator, which the generator torque is greater than the torque on the wheel. It is influenced by a small discharge of water on the modeling of micro-hydro power plants this. Modeling of the performance and efficiency of micro hydro power plants is still not good, will be developed in several ways, such as adding a height of head, changing the type of pump used or add the number of pumps and varying the ratio of pulley wheel and pulley generator.
