THE EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE CASTING TO IMPACT STRENGTH AND MICROSTRUCTURE ON SILICON ALUMINIUM ALLOY ( Al-Si ) BY EVAPORATIVE CASTING METHODE

At casting process, pouring temperature significantly influence of the final product, both in the mechanical properties and micro structure. The purpose of this study was determine the effect of temperature on the impact strength and micrustructure of product manufactured by evaporative casting methods. The material used is ( Al-7%Si ) alloy heated until melted, then poured with temperature variation of 700oC, 750oC, and 800oC. Subsequently made into a specimens impact test based on ASTM E23 and specimens microstructure test. Impact test was conducted using Charpy method and microstructure was observed with a microscope optic. The result obtained show that impact strength of Al-7%Si alloy at pouring temperature 700oC was 0,051281 Nm/mm˛, and at pouring temperature 750oC and 800oC were 051058 Nm/mm˛ and 0,04614 Nm/mm˛, respectively. The best thoughness of material (0,051281 Nm/mm˛) was obtained at pouring temperature 700oC. The microstructure observation showed that from pouring temperatures 700oC, to 800oC, ? dendrite size was smaller and flater, and the distance widened. Macrostructure observation show that fracture surface form was flat which is indicated that material properties tend to be brittle.
