ABSTRAK CHARACTERISTICS AND RISK FACTORS OF DROWNING IN RSUP SANGLAH Drowning is the process of experiencing respiratory impairment from submersion or immersion in liquid. WHO recorded that drowning is third cause of unintentional death. Death because of drowning in Bali is high because many visitor are expose to beach. Alcohol consumption, lack of ability to swim, and present illness are one of the risk factor that can cause drowning.10 Aim of this paper is to study characteristic and risk factor of drowning. This study is categorized as cross sectional descriptive study. Data collected are secondary data using medical report from drowned victim reported in Forensic Department RSUP Sanglah from January 2013 to October 2014.The variable include are gender, age, nationality, location of death, autopsy or not and risk factor from autopsy result Result from analysis show that there are 54 cases of drowning and 44 number have inclusive criteria where 7 undergo autopsy. Male have higher number of death (81.8%).. Group age between 16-40 also have higher number of death (52.3%). Most of victim are tourist (50.0%) and location of drowned in salt water (50.0%). From 7 person that undergo autopsy 4 person show risk factor of drowning. As a conclusion we can conclude that risk factor of drowning in Bali are alcohol consumption history and present illness. Suggestion to all are to make sure before doing any activity in Bali beach to be in perfect and healthy condition.
