THE RELATION BETWEEN OVERWEIGHT / OBESE PARENTS WITH OVERWEIGHT / OBESE CHILDREN

Obesity is a global problem, more than 1.4 billion adults are overweight and more than half a billion are obese. It is necessary for prevention as early as possible starting from the family environment. This study aimed to determine the relationship of overweight / obese parents with overweight / obese children. This research uses analytical or research design with cross sectional method. Subjects in this study amounted to 162 children (4-5 years) with birth years 2009 to 2010 were taken from the kindergarten in Denpasar with sampling done by simple random sampling. Analysis of data using statistical descriptive analysis technique used is the frequency and crosstab. The results of this study stated there is a relationship of overweight / obese parents with overweight / obese children were significantly better than the father or mother sequential p-value of 0.034 and 0.009. OR value from father to son is 2.021 and from mother to child is 2.322. Based on these results mean the child overweight / obese women who are overweight / obese is 2.3 times greater than children who do not have a history of maternal overweight / obese and overweight children possibility / obese than overweight father / obese 2.0-fold more compared with children who did not have a history of overweight fathers / obese and overweight children / obese parents of overweight / obese 5.8 times greater than children who do not have a history of parents of overweight / obese. Therefore, children who have a history of parents of overweight / obese advised to keep track of diet, daily activities and any trigger factor overweight / obese.
