CHARACTERISTICS OF HIV-AIDS PATIENTS ON VCT CLINIC NEGARA GENERAL HOSPITAL IN 2013

Aquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a health problem that requires serious treatment. AIDS caused by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) which is a retrovirus with ability to make several opportunistic symptoms to their host by reducing human immune response. This study uses descriptive cross-sectional method. The result of this study were obtained by analyzing data of HIV-AIDS patients directly in VCT clinic Negara General Hospital during January 2013 to December 2013. The result presented in distributed tabular form, cross tables, and narrative. From 57 HIV-AIDS cases obtained, 45 (79%) of them had entered the phase of AIDS. According to sex 34 men (59,6%) and 23 women (40,4%) obtained. The highest incidence based on age group is 30 - 39 years by 23 (42,1%), based on education is 31 high school education (54,4%), based on ethnic group is 51 Balinese ethnic group (91%), based on men job is 12 self-employed man (21%), based on women job is 13 housewife (22,8%), and based on risk factor is 40 heterosexual transmission (70,2%). This study may indicate a high incidence of HIV-AIDS in Jembrana, especially housewife, as well as they who had entered AIDS phase. This result shows the need for an active role of the government, school stakeholders, health centers, and Non Government Organization (NGO) in improving the understanding of HIV-AIDS, reproduction health, as well as drugs for the community, so it can reduce the HIV-AIDS incidence.
