DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF PATIENTS WITH DEPRESSION IN SANGLAH GENERAL HOSPITAL DENPASAR BALI PERIOD 2011-2013

Depression is still a big problem for mental health of the community. So far the data or specific statements about the characteristics of patients with depression have not been obtained, particularly in the province of Bali, especially related to the demographic characteristics of patients. This study was conducted to determine the demographic characteristics of patients with depression in Sanglah General Hospital, Denpasar, Bali, period of year 2011-2013. This study was a retrospective study using secondary data which was the patients medical records at Sanglah General Hospital in the period January 1st, 2011 until December 31st, 2013. This study was conducted in July 2014. Demographic characteristics were age, gender, occupation and education level. Depression mostly occured in the age group 16-20 years is equal to 18.1% of the 248 patients. Depression affects more women (58.47%) than in men (41.53). Depression suffered by many private sector employees (27.4%) and students (10.5%).The education level of the most depressed patients is high school (44.8%). Thus, it is concluded that depression more common in the age group 16-20 years, more suffered by women and many suffered by private sector employees and students. The education level of the most depressed patients are high school. Required counseling, information and education to people who are prone to suffer from depression.
