INCIDENCE, CHARACTERISTIC AND MANAGEMENT OF SCABIES ON OUTPATIENT AT INDERA HOSPITAL DENPASAR PERIOD JANUARY-JUNE 2014

Scabies is a skin disease caused by infection of Sarcoptes scabei hominis variant and its products. Scabies is found in almost all countries with different prevalence. Up to now, there has been no research conducted in Bali associated with scabies. This study was conducted to determine the incidence, characteristics, and management of scabies which undergone at Indera Hospital Denpasar. This study used a descriptive research design in which data is retrospective that was taken by cross-sectional method in June 2014. Data obtained by observation and recording of medical records. The samples were selected using purposive sampling technique. From 50 cases of scabies in Indera Hospital Denpasar period from January to June 2014 was obtained that most cases were male (70%), age group 0-10 years (50%), location of symptoms was on fingers (56%), with the most common complaint was itching (98%), the most common efflorescence was papule (100%), as well as the management was carried out by pharmacotherapy in the form of topical and oral preparations. Topical preparations contained anti ectoparasites (100%) and oral preparations contained antihistamines (94%). The results of this study can be used as a basis for further research.
