INCIDENT AND MANAGEMENT OF OTITIS EXTERNA ON OUTPATIENT IN INDERA HOSPITAL DENPASAR PERIOD JANUARY-JUNE 2014

Otitis externa is an infection of the ear disease common in the tropics. Research related to otitis externa has never been done in Denpasar. This study has conducted to determine the incidence, characteristics and management of otitis externa against patients who visited Indera Hospital. Research has been carried out in the Indera Hospital Denpasar period from January to June 2014 using descriptive research design data retrieval by observation and recording of medical records. The sample is 130 which took by using purposive sampling technique. 130 cases was took from inclusion criteria, the most suffer from otitis externa is gender male 52% and group of aged 25-45 years 32%. Location symptoms are dexter 41%, sinister 36%, and dextra/sinister 23%. The most complaints is aches and pains 61%. In physical examination edema was the most found 43% and earwax 31%. Management of otitis externa using topical medications such as ear drops combinations of antiseptics, corticosteroids and local anesthetics was found in most cases 63%. Oral therapy most widely used are NSAIDs 53%, antibiotics 53%, corticosteroids 48%, nasal decongestant 36% and antihistamine 31%. Hopely the results of this study can be used as a basis for further research.
