The increase of free radicals production is one of the factors that can cause the onset of hyperglycemia. Chronic hyperglycemia increases the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which induces oxidative stress. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of etanol extract of Zyzygum polyanthum in fixing the rate of ?-cell pancreas damage in hyperglycemia of wistar rats fed with alloxan. Subjects of this study were male witsar rats devided using Randomized Posttest Only Control Group Design, with Zyzygum polyanthum extract as independent variabel while blood glucose, AGEs, and Malondialdehid (MDA) as dependent variabels. A total of 24 male wistar rats with body weight (bw) about 150-200 g were used in this study. The rats, divided into four groups: one control group and three treatment groups, were given etanol extract of Zyzygum polyanthum with different concentration of 50 mg/kg bw, 100 mg/kg bw, and 150 mg/kg bw. All control treatment groups were fed by 125 mg/kg bw alloxan respectively to show hyperglycemia. The results showed that the intake of 50 mg/kg bw extract etanol of Zyzygum polyanthum could lower blood glucose and AGEs levels which were of 27.54% and 30.70 %, while MDA levels was 24.22%. The identification of extract Zyzygum Polyanthum indicated that it contained phytol and phytat acetat group compounds.
