Many types of anaesthetics have been found to get the ideal anaesthesia. One of them is Datura metel L. that containing alkaloids which are atropine, scopolamine and hyoscyamine known to be used as an anaesthetic. This study aims to investigate the response of analgesia, sedation and relaxation of white rat (Rattus novergicus) by giving the extract of amethyst flowers (Datura metel L.) intraperitoneally. A total of 25 rats were divided into 5 groups, among others are Group 1 which was given the aqua bidest; Group 2 which was given 100mg/kg of amethyst flower extract; Group 3 which was given 150mg/kg of amethyst flower extract; Group 4 which was given 200mg/kg of amethyst flower extract; and Group 5 which was given 250mg/kg of amethyst flower extract intraperitoneally. The analgesia, sedation and relaxation response on each treatment observed for every 5 minutes. The results showed that the amethyst flower (Datura metel L.) extract given to white rat (Rattus novergicus) in various doses intraperitoneally provide a wide range of analgesia effect, but will not provide sedation/hallucinations and relaxation effects.
