RISK FACTORS OF ACUTE DIARRHEA IN CHILDREN IN THE VILLAGE TEGALLALANG JANUARY TO JULY IN THE YEAR 2014

Diarrhea is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in developing countries. Based health center profile Tegallalang I, diarrheal disease is in the top ten in January and July 2014. Number of reported cases of diarrhea in infants totaled 50 cases. The research carried out to determine the risk factors of diarrhea in health centers I Tegallantang. This research uses a case-control design. Number of samples of each case and control were 36 toddlers. Cases and controls were selected from registers health center Tegallalang I in January to July in 2014. Risk factors include the availability of sewerage, utilization of family latrines, utilization of clean water facilities, Asi Exclusive, washing hands after a defecated or before meals, and boiling water before cunsumed. This data was collected by observation and interviews. Risk factor was analyzed using chi-square test as a bivariate variable. The results showed that risk factors affect the incidence of diarrhea in infants by bivariate analysis is the availability of SPAL (OR = 7.80, p = 0.00), use of sewerage (OR = 3.75, p = 0.01) , clean water utilization (OR = 9.10. p = 0.00), exclusive breast milk (OR = 17.20, p = 0.00), washing hands after defecation (OR = 3.70, p = 0.02), washing hands before eating (OR = 2.60, p = 0.09), boiling water before consumed (OR = 7.95, p = 0.00). Variable of family latrines availability, utilization of clean water, exclusive breast feeding, wash hand after defecation, and a boiling water proved to increase the risk of acute diarrhea in infants. Therefore, individuals are advised to improved sanitation, environmental sanitation, and also to reduce the risk of diarrhea.
