Insomnia is one of sleep disorders which are common in elderly where a high prevalence increases along with the increasing age. Some risk factors for insomnia in the elderly include: socio-demographic and economic factors, physical and mental morbidity, chronic pain, menopause, and physical stress factors. Aim of this study was to describe the factors that affect the level of insomnia in the elderly in Rendang Public Health. This research was a descriptive cross-sectional study with 64 samples who were selected by consecutive sampling. Data obtained by the method of structured interviews using questionnaires. Of the 64 samples of the elderly, most experienced insomnia with distribution of 42.2% of mild insomnia, 29.7% of moderate insomnia, and 4.7% severe insomnia. In the elderly group without depression, 37.1% did not experience insomnia, in mild depression group, 57.7% had mild insomnia, whereas in the group of major depression, 66.7% had severe insomnia. Based on the underlying disease, the group with the underlying disease, 47.4% had mild insomnia. The conclusions of the study are the level of insomnia in the elderly in Rendang Public Health was quite high and the incidence of insomnia occurred in the group with underlying disease.
