Sharing Tips for Success in Veterinary Medical Services RSHP FKH UDAYANA Held a Seminar for Internship Veterinarians

The urge to move towards growth and development at the Udayana Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) became a topic of discussion in the seminar on Tips and Tricks for Success in Veterinary Medical Services at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) which took place in the Seminar Room, Second Floor of VTH, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM). Udayana University on July 29, 2022.

The seminar, which was attended by participants from the team of doctors, management, students from the Hospital block Internship Student, was even more special with the presence of Prof. Dr. Dr. I Ketut Puja, M.Kes, who is a senior practitioner in the field of small animals in Bali and who is also the Director of the Teaching Veterinary Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana.

Dr. Drh Luh Gde Sri Surya Heryani, M. Biomed as the Vice Dean for General Affairs and Finance who represented the Dean of FVM opened the seminar by expressing his hope that in the future the development of VTH should be directed to become a referral animal hospital. This is because in the eastern region there is no international standard referral hospital. Dr. Surya also hopes that this activity aims to change the old paradigm in managing a veterinary hospital, which is not only pursuing profit but also having a balance with the role of education.

In front of the participants, Prof. Puja invited VTH to implement the vision to increase the number (and quality) of new customers, generate more revenue from existing customers, increase operational efficiency, and reduce the number of handling failures. The key to successfully implementing this vision is by paying attention to 5 important components, namely team, client, program, finance and leadership.

Furthermore, Prof. Puja said that to be successful there are at least two of the 5 components which are pillars that must be considered, namely the client and the quality of the team of doctors. Before rushing forward to develop an VTH, the first thing that needs to be done is to set standards of excellent service, use of the best medicines for patients and clear information to clients, have doctors who are able to convince clients to pay that they have received sufficient value to justify get higher costs.

In the second session, presented speaker Drh Marcel from MSD Animal Health Indonesia. In his presentation, he highlighted the role of disease prevention rather than treatment. he said that in developed countries, the use of vaccines and anti-parasitic drugs is the biggest expense in veterinary hospitals. Disease prevention plays a role in improving the health of the pets being cared for, leading to a better quality of life and a greater likelihood of a longer life. This has an impact on increasing the client's bond with the hospital so that repeat visits occur. The impact will increase hospital income.

In the discussion session, Prof. Puja answered the participant's question that in order to progress, everyone in the hospital needs to understand what the ultimate goal of the hospital is and how the hospital wants to achieve this goal.
