Jakarta, September 1, 2026 – Udayana University has once again marked a significant milestone in the development of higher education in Indonesia. Following a years-long institutional transformation process, Udayana University has officially received the copy of Government Regulation (PP) Number 35 of 2026 concerning Udayana University as a State University with Legal Entity Status (PTN-BH).
The handover of the regulation took place at Building D of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta. The document was presented directly by the Director General of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Khairul Munadi, S.T., M.Eng., to the university’s leadership team, led by the Rector, accompanied by the Vice Rectors and the Chair of the University Senate. The granting of PTN-BH status reflects the government’s confidence in Udayana University regarding its achievements in governance, academic quality, and accountability, as well as the institution’s readiness to exercise university autonomy in a broader, professional, and responsible manner. This moment serves as a new milestone for Udayana University to strengthen its competitiveness as a leading university at both national and international levels.
As one of Indonesia’s largest universities, Udayana University currently serves 34,215 active students across 136 study programs; notably, 77 of these programs—representing 57.8 percent of the total—have achieved “Superior” (Unggul) accreditation status. The university also continues to enhance academic quality by expanding internationally accredited study programs, growing from zero prior to 2021 to 31 programs by 2025. These achievements provide a solid foundation for implementing a PTN-BH governance model that is adaptive, innovative, and oriented toward continuous quality improvement.
Udayana University’s strengthened internationalization is also reflected in the growing confidence of international students. Currently, Udayana University serves as an academic home for students from over 40 countries across Asia, Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, and the Americas. This diversity reflects the university’s strengthening international academic network and growing global recognition of the quality of education it provides. Regarding human resources, Udayana University possesses a continuously expanding academic workforce—comprising 251 Professors and 287 Associate Professors—which serves as a vital asset for advancing excellence-driven education, research, and innovation.
Udayana University’s international reputation is also on a positive trajectory. In the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, the university ranked 518th in Asia and 97th in Southeast Asia; meanwhile, the EduRank 2026 rankings placed it first in Bali, 14th nationally, 319th in Asia, and 1,313th globally. Student achievements have also continued to rise, with 46 international and 556 national accolades secured throughout 2026.
Udayana University has also seen significant growth in research and innovation productivity. As of August 2026, the university has recorded 307 international publications indexed in Scopus, 1,891 national publications, 91 intellectual property assets, 148 scholarly books, and hundreds of academic citations. The diverse innovations produced by the academic community—ranging from health products based on Balinese natural ingredients to Internet of Things (IoT) technologies—demonstrate Udayana University’s commitment to delivering research that creates a tangible impact on society and industry.
The transition in status from a Public Service Agency State University (PTN-BLU) to a State University with Legal Entity status (PTN-BH) grants Udayana University greater autonomy. This enables the university to strengthen professional governance, increase flexibility in resource management, accelerate the commercialization and application of research and innovation outcomes, expand national and international collaboration networks, and enhance the quality of higher education services.
This institutional transformation has not resulted in an increase in student tuition fees (UKT). Udayana University remains committed to maintaining access to quality higher education while leveraging the governance flexibility of PTN-BH status to improve academic services, upgrade educational facilities and infrastructure, develop human resources, and enhance the quality of research and community service. Udayana University Rector Prof. Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, S.T., Ph.D., stated that PTN-BH status is not the ultimate goal, but rather the beginning of a greater responsibility to establish university governance that is increasingly excellent, adaptive, and competitive.
